Job Summary:
Buy Low Foods Discount is looking for a dynamic, motivated, and experienced individual to lead our Produce Department. The Produce Supervisor is responsible for overseeing all aspects of the department, from maintaining fresh, high-quality products and attractive displays to leading a strong, customer-focused team. This role requires a hands-on leader with a passion for produce, a commitment to excellence, and the ability to drive both sales and team performance.
Key Responsibilities:
- Team Leadership & Development
- Recruit, train, mentor, and schedule department staff to create a knowledgeable and productive team.
- Provide clear direction, delegate tasks effectively, and promote accountability.
- Foster a positive, respectful, and safety-focused team culture.
- Department Operations
- Ensure the department is clean, organized, and fully stocked with fresh, high-quality fruits and vegetables.
- Maintain compelling merchandising and displays in alignment with seasonal trends and corporate standards.
- Monitor and maintain inventory levels, place accurate orders, and coordinate with vendors for timely deliveries.
- Minimize shrink through proper handling, rotation, and storage of product.
- Customer Experience
- Provide outstanding customer service by being approachable, knowledgeable, and responsive.
- Address customer questions, concerns, and feedback in a professional and timely manner.
- Ensure products are accurately labeled, attractively presented, and easily accessible.
- Safety & Compliance
- Promote a culture of safety by ensuring staff follow safe work and food handling practices.
- Ensure compliance with all health, safety, and sanitation standards.
- Collaboration & Leadership
- Work closely with the Store Manager and other Department Managers to support overall store goals and initiatives.
- Actively contribute to store leadership discussions and decision-making.
- Take on key-holding responsibilities when required, including managing the store safe and alarm system.
- Administrative Responsibilities
- Maintain accurate records for inventory, ordering, scheduling, and team performance.
- Track departmental performance and help drive initiatives that support profitability and operational efficiency.
Skills and Qualifications:
- Prior experience in produce operations within a retail or grocery environment.
- Strong leadership and team management skills.
- Solid understanding of produce handling, merchandising, and food safety standards.
- Ability to lead by example and foster a customer-first mindset.
- Proven ability to meet sales and operational goals.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.
- Ability to enforce and adhere to company policies and procedures.
- Proficient in English (verbal and written).
- Flexible availability including mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
Work Conditions & Physical Requirements:
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, lift, and move product for extended periods.
- Comfortable lifting up to 50 lbs and working in cold environments (coolers).
- Capable of handling physically demanding, repetitive tasks in a fast-paced setting.
