About the Role

As our Founding Backend Engineer, you'll work directly with the CEO—who also leads technical strategy—to build and scale the core systems that power our platform. You'll own implementation and delivery end-to-end, translating ideas into production-ready systems that perform at scale. This role is deeply hands-on: expect to spend most of your time coding, architecting for growth, and shipping features quickly and reliably.

What You'll Do

• Design, build, and maintain the backend systems that drive AI-powered campaign insights.
• Collaborate with the CEO to make core architecture and design decisions that shape Chorus AI's technical foundation.
• Ship production features across agents, agent tools, MCP servers, data pipelines, and integrations.
• Rapidly iterate on new features and infrastructure.
• Tackle complex challenges: real-time data pipelines, analytics scalability, operational reliability.
• Maintain engineering best practices and contribute to shaping our engineering practice, tooling, and culture from the beginning.

Who You Are

• Senior Backend Engineer with expertise in Python and implementing production systems.
• Minimum of 5 years relevant experience.
• Strong background in building scalable, maintainable backend architectures.
• You are hands-on and resourceful, low-ego, have relentless curiosity, and are comfortable in fast-paced early-stage startup environments.
• Excited to work in-office 5 days/week in Toronto (68 Claremont St, Queen & Ossington).
• You've contributed to collaborative or multi-user product features, and you understand the data, consistency, and UX considerations that come with them.
• You've influenced engineering culture through code reviews, mentoring, or leading by example, and you're comfortable being a resource for others on architectural decisions.
• Fluency with modern AI tools (ie Claude Code, Cursor, etc)–-not just using them for code generation, but integrating them into how you debug, document, explore ideas, and reduce manual effort.
• You've led backend projects from start to finish — shaping architecture, guiding trade-offs, and delivering reliable systems that support real-world product needs.
