Les Femmes Michif Otipemisiwak / Women of the Métis Nation (LFMO) speaks as the national and international voice for Métis women across the Motherland. LFMO aims to consult, promote and represent the personal, spiritual, social, cultural, political and economic interests and aspirations of women, Two-Spirit and gender-diverse people of the Métis Nation.
Position Overview
The MMIWG2S+ Project Assistant will play a key role in supporting LFMO's MMIWG2S Initiatives by providing coordination, research, administrative, and engagement support to the Director. This position helps ensure the effective implementation of LFMO's MMIWG2S+ strategies, community engagement activities, and policy-related work. The ideal candidate is highly organized, adaptable, and committed to supporting Métis women, girls, Two-Spirit, and gender diverse people through culturally grounded and trauma-informed approaches.
Key Responsibilities
Project & Administrative Support
· Assist the Director with daily project coordination, scheduling, tracking, and follow-up.
· Prepare meeting agendas, minutes, briefing notes, correspondence, and presentation materials.
· Maintain organized project files, shared documents, and tracking tools.
· Support the implementation and monitoring of MMIWG2S+ initiatives and activities.
Research & Writing
· Conduct background research related to MMIWG2S+ issues, policy developments, and community priorities.
· Support data collection using qualitative and/or mixed-method approaches; experience with database software is an asset.
· Assist with drafting reports, grant proposals, funding applications, briefing notes, and policy summaries.
· Help synthesize information for internal and external audiences.
Group Facilitation & Engagement Support
· Provide logistical and facilitation support for community engagement sessions, online dialogues, committee meetings, and gatherings.
· Assist with preparing facilitation guides, engagement materials, and follow-up summaries.
· Support culturally grounded engagement practices in collaboration with the Director and community partners.
Event & Logistics Coordination
· Assist with planning and coordinating meetings, forums, ceremonies, vigils, workshops, campaigns, and related events.
· Arrange travel, venues, catering, materials, registration, and logistics.
· Support outreach and communications for events as needed.
Communications & Relationship Support
· Maintain contact lists, community directories, and engagement tracking tools.
· Draft emails, notices, and updates for participants, partners, and stakeholders.
· Support community-facing communications that follow Métis-specific protocols and contexts.
Other Duties as Required
· Provide additional administrative, technical, or coordination support as priorities evolve.
· Assist with unexpected or emerging tasks related to advocacy, community engagement, research, or project timelines.
· Support the broader work of LFMO where cross-team collaboration is needed.
Skills & Qualifications
· Experience supporting projects related to Indigenous rights, gender-based violence, social policy, community advocacy, or related areas (asset).
· Strong facilitation skills for both in-person and virtual engagement.
· Research and writing experience; comfort with mixed methods and/or databases is an asset.
· Strong organizational and coordination skills, with excellent attention to detail.
· Experience supporting grant or proposal writing.
· Ability to work collaboratively with Métis communities, partners, and stakeholders.
· Commitment to culturally safe, trauma-informed, and community-centered approaches.
· Ability to travel occasionally as required.
Working Conditions:
· This position requires occasional travel.
· Occasionally, flexible working hours may be necessary.
