West Lynn Heights is a Kindergarten to Grade 12 school with 235 students located in Lynn Lake, Manitoba, approximately 3½ hours by vehicle northwest of Thompson, Manitoba. The area's natural beauty provides for an abundance of outdoor recreation opportunities. Dozens of lakes and rivers in the surrounding region make Lynn Lake a popular hunting and fishing destination.

Working in collaboration with the classroom teacher, the Literacy Support Teacher provides the following services:

  • Programming support and development
  • Classroom support
  • Individualized and small group instruction
  • Assessments

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Education Degree and Valid Manitoba Teaching Certificate (or eligibility for)
  • Current knowledge of effective literacy instruction and assessment practices
  • Experience providing, creating and implementing individualized programming for At Risk students and students with special needs
  • Knowledge and experience with balanced literacy, guided Reading, Fountas and Pinnell
  • Strong planning and communication skills
  • A strong background in language development
  • Knowledge and implementation of cooperative learning/small group instruction
  • The ability to work alongside teachers, colleagues and contribute collaboratively as a team member
  • Certification as a trained Reading Recovery teacher would be considered an asset.
