Nature & Scope
Reporting into the Director, Data& Analytics, the Data Analyst plays a key role in transforming raw, unstructured data from multiple sources into meaningful insights that support decision-making across YMCA BC. This role supports data collection, entry, validation, and reporting across various portfolios, helping to uncover trends related to members, services, programs, and operations.
The Data Analyst is responsible for developing descriptive reports, applying statistical techniques, and interpreting integrated data systems to inform strategic and operational decisions. They assist in building and maintaining Power BI dashboards, performing SQL queries, and ensuring the accuracy and consistency of data systems. By delivering timely, reliable data, the Data Analyst enables leadership and operational teams to make informed decisions and improve organizational performance.
Major Responsibilities- in this position, you will:
- Perform data entry, validation, and quality checks to maintain accurate datasets across assigned YMCA BC portfolios
- Extract, transform, and load data from various sources into structured formats for analysis and reporting
- Acquire and manage data from primary and secondary sources; maintain databases and data systems
- Assist in data extraction and SQL queries from various sources, ensuring data integrity and completeness
- Clean and validate data to ensure accuracy, consistency, and reliability
- Support the design, development, and maintenance of Power BI dashboards and reports for operational and leadership use.
- Design and optimize reports and dashboards that provide actionable insights for decision-making
- Analyze complex data sets to identify trends, patterns, and opportunities for improvement
- Apply statistical techniques to interpret data and generate ongoing reports
- Work with cross-functional teams to understand reporting needs and deliver basic analytical outputs.
- Collaborate with senior analysts on documentation, data cleaning, and report automation tasks.
- Provide support for Salesforce data tracking and reporting, as skills and interest allow
Qualification-you bring:
- University degree in Statistics, Social Sciences, Information Technology, or a related field
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to collect, organize, analyze, and interpret large datasets with attention to detail and accuracy
- Proficiency in SQL for data extraction and manipulation
- Experience with statistical analysis tools such as Excel, SPSS, or SAS
- Skilled in designing and maintaining dashboards using visualization tools like Power BI or Tableau
- Familiarity with reporting packages (e.g., Business Objects), programming languages (e.g., XML, JavaScript), and ETL frameworks
- Adept at writing queries, generating reports, and presenting findings to diverse audiences
- Comfortable working in dynamic environments with ambiguity and change
- Technical proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including OneDrive and SharePoint
- Ability to validate large datasets, resolve discrepancies, and design visuals that clearly communicate insights
- Strong organizational and time management skills to balance accuracy with timely delivery across multiple departments
- Understanding of the impact of data integrity on operational and strategic decision-making
- Successful candidate will be required to provide 3 satisfactory references
- Successful candidates will be required to provide a current and satisfactory Criminal Record check with a Vulnerable sector search issued no later than six (6) months preceding the start date.
