Job SummaryReporting to the Supervisor, Enteric and Vector Borne Diseases in the Health Protection Division, this position is responsible for but not limited to inspecting various premises to ensure compliance with relevant legislation including personal service settings; investigation and management of enteric outbreaks in congregate living settings and childcare settings; infectious disease case and contact management; investigating public complaints and responding to reported health hazards.
Duties & Responsibilities- Inspect a variety of fixed premises (e.g. Long Term Care Homes, personal services settings, childcare centres and acute care settings) as required by the Ontario Public Health Standards under the Health Protection and Promotion Act RSO 1990.
- Investigate complaints regarding infection control at personal services settings, congregate living settings, and childcare centres.
- Lead investigations and management of enteric outbreaks in long term care and retirement homes, and childcare centres.
- Investigates reports of enteric infectious diseases and responds to infection prevention and control related inquiries.
- Conduct investigations and enforcement related activities under the authority of the Health Protection and Promotion Act.
- Attend court and participate in legal proceedings, as required.
- Responsible for utilizing an electronic database as part of case management and inspection systems.
- Maintain liaison with a variety of agencies including representatives of local, regional and provincial governments.
- Undertake special projects and surveys as required.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Degree in a program of instruction approved by the Board of Certification with the Canadian Institute of Public Health Inspectors combined with a current certificate in Public Health Inspection (Canada) and related experience.
- Must possess strong evaluation and analytical skills, along with excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Must be able to effectively deal with internal and external groups to achieve departmental and organizational goals.
- Proficiency with MS Office and M365
Working Conditions
- Working hours: Flexibility to work outside of core business hours including evenings, weekends and holidays is required.
- Required to serve on standby on a rotational basis.
- Travel will be required.
Employment Conditions
- The successful candidate will be made an offer of employment on condition that the Regional Municipality of Halton receives a current (obtained within the past six (6) months), original and acceptable Criminal Records Check, including Vulnerable Sector Screening by the first day of employment.
- Current certificate in Public Health Inspection (Canada) and/or a member in good standing if certified after January 1, 2017.
- Valid Ontario G class driver's license. You will be required to drive a vehicle and will be required to provide a copy of a valid driver's license by the first day of employment.
