Your opportunity:
Working with a dynamic team and reporting into the Director, Student Engagement, you will be dedicated to the enrichment of the co-curricular life of the campus, focused on developing programming to support 2SLGBTQ+ identifying students on campus.
As the Student Life Coordinator, Sexual & Gender Diversity Student Engagement, your role will consist of developing, coordinating and evaluating thedepartment's prominent community-engaged co-curricular experiential learning opportunity, with an emphasis on 2SLGBTQ+ student development and 2SLGBTQ+ student success. This will involve fostering an open and inclusive world view environment; organizing and facilitating student development workshops; recruiting and training work-study students; and developing innovative programming that celebrates the 2SLGBTQ+ identifying community present at the St. George campus. Your work will involve extensive partnerships and communication with campus, tri-campus stakeholders and external community partners.
In addition to building strong community partnerships, you will work closely with the other positions within the Office of Student Engagement, aswell as other campus partners. Your work will be informed by relevant research, and community engagement principles, and will consult with a broad range of student groups and student services.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Planning and implementing components of curricular and/or co-curricular programs and activities
- Planning and overseeing the implementation of an evaluation framework for programs and initiatives
- Conducting detailed analysis on program efficiency and student learning outcomes to inform program planning activities
- Promoting experiential learning opportunities
- Facilitating educational workshops and seminars
- Developing content for marketing and/or promotional materials
- Developing strategies that maximize outreach to students
- Training and coaching student life staff and student leaders
Essential Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree inhigher education or leadership or an acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience. Must have formal training and/or education in community development in higher education or anti-oppression and equity.
- Minimum four years of working experience in student life, student development, community development, and program development, preferably within a post-secondary institution.
- Demonstrated experience working with diverse communities, outreach and using principles of equity and anti-oppression, understanding of student issues, advising and transition.
- Must possess the ability to relate to students in a manner which builds trust and confidence and be able to demonstrate the ability to implement programs.
- Must be comfortable working independently and in a team environment.
- Must have excellent organizational, written and oral communication skills as well as presentation skills.
- Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Ability to sensitively handle individuals who are in distress and refer them to appropriate resources.
- Must have the ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines.
- Must have strong demonstrated knowledge and understanding of anti-oppression and equity frameworks, societal and systematic barriers and experiences faced by students of African descent.
- Must show evidence of a commitment to equity, diversity, inclusion, and the promotion of a respectful and collegial learning and working environment.
