49 Below Ice Cream | Full-Time | $26/hour (35 hours/week)

We're looking for someone to lead production, develop flavours, and run the back of house at 49 Below Ice Cream. This is a hands-on role where you'll make ice cream, manage a small team, and own the systems that keep quality high and costs in check.

Flexible schedule: start/end times and days worked are negotiable.

Tip Pool: weekly tips paid out in cash.

What you'll do

  • Lead daily small-batch ice cream production from prep through packaging
  • Develop, test, and cost out new seasonal flavours and inclusions
  • Manage inventory, ordering, receiving, and production planning
  • Cost recipes, track yields, monitor waste, and make margin-aware decisions
  • Train and lead back-of-house staff on standards and execution
  • Keep production systems tight and improve efficiency over time

This role is for you if:

  • You've led a kitchen or production team and take pride in what you create
  • You can cost a recipe, calculate yields, and understand how to hit food cost targets
  • You're organized and can juggle production, ordering, and team management
  • You get excited about food and culture trends, flavour development and ingredient combinations
  • You're decisive under pressure and can make fast calls when the kitchen needs them
  • You connect the dots between daily decisions and future impact, thinking through how production choices today affect what you'll need (or wish you hadn't made) next week
  • You're the type who sees waste or a messy process and can't help but figure out how to improve it - it's not about being told to, it's just how you operate
  • You're plugged into what's happening: food trends, cultural moments, and what's resonating locally - and you see how to translate that into timely flavours that get people excited
  • Ice cream experience is a bonus, but kitchen leadership, recipe development, menu planning, and budgeting experience matter more

Requirements

  • Experience leading kitchen/production operations
  • Demonstrated ability with costing, budgeting, inventory management, production planning
  • Experience with menu planning, recipe development and testing
  • Strong standards for quality and consistency
  • Comfortable training and guiding staff
