Overview

We are seeking a detail-oriented and organized Legal Assistant to support our legal team in a fast-paced environment. The ideal candidate will possess strong administrative skills, excellent research abilities, and a solid understanding of legal procedures. Duties

  • Assist with legal research using tools such as LexisNexis and Canlii to gather relevant case information and legal precedents.
  • Prepare, proofread, and review legal documents, correspondence, and filings for accuracy and clarity.
  • Manage case files through organized filing systems, both electronic and paper-based, ensuring easy retrieval of information.
  • Perform data entry tasks related to case management systems and maintain accurate records of client information and case updates.
  • Support attorneys with project management tasks, including scheduling appointments, deadlines, and court dates.
  • Conduct interviews with clients or witnesses as needed to gather pertinent information for cases.
  • Draft legal documents such as pleadings, motions, and correspondence with attention to detail and proper formatting.
  • Handle clerical duties including answering phones with professional phone etiquette, managing emails, and coordinating meetings.
  • Assist with general administrative responsibilities to ensure smooth office operations.

Qualifications

  • Proven experience in administrative or clerical roles within a legal or professional environment.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently.
  • Excellent proofreading, writing skills, and attention to detail.
  • Familiarity with legal research tools such as LexisNexis and document management systems like iManage.
  • Experience with legal drafting, data entry, filing systems, and project management is preferred.
  • Good interviewing skills and professional phone etiquette.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with team members.
  • Prior experience in legal settings or coursework related to law is a plus but not required. This position provides a valuable opportunity for individuals interested in developing their legal career while supporting a dedicated team of professionals.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: From $20.00 per hour

Expected hours: 25 – 35 per week
