HomeFront is a non-profit organization in Calgary that works alongside the justice system, police and community partners to help free families from domestic violence. Through a unique collaborative model, HomeFront works to ensure that victims are safer and offenders are being held accountable.
We are currently looking for a full-time Communications and Events Specialist.
This position is responsible for social media management; management of website content; writing and production of external and internal communication materials ensuring consistency of messaging and branding; media relations; support of event planning and event execution while working in conjunction with the fund development team.
**Key Accountabilities**
- Developing and implementing communications plans and strategies to enhance visibility and awareness, ensuring alignment with mission and goals.
- Writing, designing, and producing all written and visual communications and marketing materials including newsletters, annual reports, brochures and other agency publications as directed.
- Creating and executing social media strategy; writing content and designing graphics for all social media channels.
- Managing all Social Media accounts and tracking effectiveness of social media strategies.
- Develop a key media relations strategy to increase HomeFront’s awareness.
- Liaison with media, field questions, craft key messages and connect media with HomeFront’s executive director for interviews as needed.
- Track HomeFront involvement within the media and keep media contacts updated.
- Working to create impactful storytelling content, effectively conveying the organization's mission and client success stories, while ensuring confidentiality and client sensitivity.
- Event Planning and Execution as directed.
- Event volunteer recruitment, training, scheduling, and supervising.
- Presenting to community and corporate groups about HomeFront’s work.
**Qualifications/Competencies**
- 3 - 5 years of experience in a communications or marketing role.
- Previous event coordinator experience is preferred.
- Degree/Diploma in Marketing, Communications, Public Relations, or closely related field.
- Excellent written and verbal communications skills with exceptional spelling, grammar, and proofreading skills.
- Understands traditional and emerging social media channels.
- Self-motivated, action and results oriented working style.
- Be able to manage competing and evolving priorities.
- Strong organizational skills and keen attention to detail.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality, demonstrating discretion and sound judgment.
- Ability to thrive as part of a team, excellent interpersonal skills; ability to work with a diverse set of individuals including external vendors and volunteers.
- Must be proficient in Microsoft Office and Word Press.
- Experience in Canva or Adobe Creative Suite is an asset.
- Relevant non-profit and domestic violence knowledge is an asset.
- Willingness to work flexible hours as required.
- Experience in grant writing and reporting an asset
This position requires the completion of a Calgary Police Information Check.
**Location**: Hybrid Remote
**Reports to**: Director of Advancement
**Hours**: 37.5 per week
**Shifts**: Mon to Fri; with some evenings and weekends required for events and meetings
**Salary**: Dependent upon education and experience.
