- This role is hybrid with a mix of remote and in-person work at North Campus Edmonton.

Reporting to the Manager, Academic Programs & Student Services, the Social Worker is a key member of the Faculty’s student support team. This position provides individualized, short-term services to learners experiencing personal, academic, or social challenges that require professional attention. The Social Worker works directly with students to promote stability, connect them to appropriate resources, and enhance overall wellbeing. Services may include crisis intervention, supportive counseling, resource navigation, and referrals to on
- and off-campus supports.

The role emphasizes collaboration with University partners (e.g., Office of Advocacy and Wellbeing, Health and Wellness Services, International Student and Visitor Services) and community agencies to facilitate continuity of care and integrated support for learners.

The Social Worker maintains student records in accordance with relevant legislation, Alberta College of Social Workers (ACSW) guidelines, and university policies. The position also assists with Faculty wellness planning, contributes to campus wellness initiatives, and participates in cross-Faculty meetings to discuss case trends, policies, and procedures relevant to student wellness.

The schedule may include late afternoon or evening hours, to be coordinated with the successful applicant, in order to accommodate students outside of class or clinical placements.

Key Responsibilities:

- Provide short-term, solution-focused support to learners within the social work professional scope of practice.
- Manage a caseload of students with diverse personal, academic, and wellness needs.
- Deliver crisis intervention and continuity of care during periods of transition, including appropriate referral and follow-up.
- Develop and maintain collaborative partnerships with campus and community services to ensure seamless student support.
- Maintain accurate, confidential case records consistent with ACSW standards and university policies.
- Participate in Faculty and campus-wide wellness committees, meetings, and initiatives.
- Other duties as assigned.

The Faculty of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences offers one of Canada’s top-ranked PharmD programs, along with a suite of postgraduate opportunities. Serving approximately 650 students annually, the faculty integrates research, teaching, and clinical practice to prepare future pharmacists and pharmaceutical scientists for leadership in healthcare and drug development.
- Manage a caseload of students with diverse needs and priorities within a purpose-oriented and reflection based care framework
- Conduct service provision using the ACSW's professional scope of practice to develop a through understanding of student needs and triage requests for mental health and wellness services
- Assess student needs using social work frameworks and triage according to risk level
- Provide support, assessment, and care during service transitions, including communication with appropriate partners
- Provide ongoing support through check-ins and follow-ups as appropriate
- Maintain accurate student records in accordance with University policies, ACSW Standards of Practice, and legislative requirements (ATIA, POPA, HIA)
- Use designated electronic records systems to track intake, care plans and progress notes
- Develop and maintain strong working relationships with campus and community services to ensure seamless student connections
- Create action plans with community members and facilitate goal setting to strengthen student connections and engagement in sustainable support
- Participate in training sessions and initiatives to align with University and Faculty student care practices
- Engage with students to raise awareness of available resources and the role of social work in student wellness

Education & Experience
- Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) degree required; Master of Social Work (MSW) considered an asset.
- Member in good standing with the Alberta College of Social Workers (ACSW).
- Two to five years of frontline social work and/or outreach experience in a fast-paced, change-oriented environment or within an adult/post-secondary institution.
- Proven experience in case management, crisis intervention, prevention work, supportive counselling/advising, and interdisciplinary team navigation.
- Experience providing short-term counselling, crisis response, information, and referral services.
- Experience supporting diverse communities and populations.

Skills & Abilities
- Strong interpersonal, communication (verbal and written), and relationship-building skills.
- Demonstrated ability to build and maintain trusting relationships with students, colleagues, and partners.
