**Assistant Controller**

The **Assistant Controller** is responsible for supporting the Controller in managing the financial operations of the company. This role will be to assist with the preparation of financial statements on both monthly and yearly closings. Additionally, the role includes providing financial analyses to support management decisions, preparing for audits, and maintaining compliance with various government requirements. Strong analytical skills, experience in the construction industry, and proficiency in accounting software are essential for success in this role.

**Duties and Responsibilities**:

- Provide comprehensive support to the Controller by assisting with financial reporting and preparing detailed financial analyses and summaries to aid in strategic decision-making.
- Assist in the preparation of accurate financial statements, ledgers, and accounts, including performing detailed reviews and making corrections to ensure financial records are correct.
- Support the closing process for monthly and yearly financial periods by analyzing and reconciling general ledgers, and providing detailed analysis for department and company stakeholders.
- Prepare supporting documentation for the annual audit and serve as the initial point of contact for the external auditors and related questions.
- Provide oversight to Junior Accountant for bank reconciliations and other finance-related administrative tasks
- Prepare and analyze regular and ad hoc financial reports to support management decision-making.
- Provide guidance to department leads on how to interpret job cost reports and financial results
- Maintain and update records for fixed assets inventory, including tracking acquisitions, disposals, and amortization.
- Calculate HST owing and prepare HST returns in compliance with payment and reporting requirements.
- Provide technical support to ERP users as needed
- Other duties as assigned

**Requirements**:

- Minimum of 3 years of experience in accounting or finance role
- Experience in the construction industry or similar sectors with a strong understanding of job cost accounting preferred
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel, including the use of formulas, pivot tables, and financial modeling.
- Familiarity with HST regulations and reporting requirements.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to interpret complex financial data and generate actionable insights.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to present financial information clearly and concisely to non-financial stakeholders.
- Organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize effectively in a fast-paced environment.
- Attention to detail and accuracy in financial reporting and data entry.
