Reporting to the Director, Resource Management, the Geologist will be accountable for planning, execution and integration of geological shale gas and oil sands projects, including exploration and development programs, geological support to drilling, completion and production, land evaluation and acquisition proposals, project proposals, procurement and management of geological services, data collection, interpretation and reporting.

**Accountabilities**:
The accountabilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

- Closely work with other disciplines to plan, rank and optimize well locations to support annual work plan and budget (AWPB)
- Support well drilling programs including procurement and budgeting of geological services
- Responsible for geo-steering interpretations and managing remote geo-steering personnel
- Attending daily drilling meetings and serving as a key Interface between wellsite/geo-steering and development geoscience team
- Taking a key role in the preparation of Geological Well Prognosis, end of well documentation, analysis and reporting to internal/external parties
- Execute delineation programs including data collection, data quality control, data organization, interpretation and reporting of results
- Incorporate learnings from historical well placement and competitor experience to determine optimal well placement for shale gas and oil sands
- Conduct detailed sedimentological characterization of reservoirs using core and logging techniques
- Perform stratigraphic correlation and subsurface mapping of the assets
- Perform basic petrophysical interpretations of the reservoir
- Integrate all available knowledge and information to into practical Petrel projects.
- Interact with various geological consulting and service companies
- Provide inputs for reserve and resource estimations for all the geological and petrophysical data
- Correspond with the Alberta Energy Regulator (AER)
- Work closely with Production, Reservoir and Operations teams to maximize production through sharing of geotechnical knowledge and facilitate discussion between engineers and geotechnical team members

**Qualifications**:

- Undergraduate degree in Geosciences, advanced degree an asset
- Member of/or ability to register with APEGA as a Professional Geologist
- 10-15 years’ shale gas and/or oilsands, or related geological experience
- Good command of sedimentological description and interpretation
- Advanced stratigraphic correlation and subsurface mapping skills
- Sound knowledge of operations geology
- Good knowledge of Petrel and GeoScout software
- Good understanding of geomodelling and geostatistics
- Excellent planning and execution skills
- Exceptional oral and written communication skills
- Capacity to execute projects independently and efficiently
- Strong interpersonal skills, ability to work well with diverse personalities and work force
- Ability to forge, grow and maintain positive relationships with multiple groups
- Strong written and oral communication skills
- Able to manage multiple priorities simultaneously and meet the time demands of unpredictable activities; capable of handling pressure and challenges in a dynamic business environment
- Ability to work within tight deadlines and prioritization of work to achieve them
- Strong analytical, critical thinking, problem-solving skills, and a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail
- Ability to travel as required
