This full-time position is based in our Calgary office and reports directly to the Geosciences Manager, Heavy Oil Business Unit.Responsibilities:Collaborate with engineering and geoscience teams to plan and execute development drilling programs, including pre-spud geology packages, directional plans, offset data, and active geo-steering during drilling operations.Interpret and incorporate offset geological drilling and production data to optimize well strategy, placement, and efficiencies. Monitor area competitor activity, development strategies, and results.Monitor land sale activity and proactively seek opportunities for drilling inventory growth, including step-out exploration, land swaps, and other business unit M&A activities.Work with area engineers on reserves reconciliation, long-range planning, and annual budgets/production performance modeling.Qualifications / Experience:Bachelor’s degree in Geology.8 to 10 years of geology experience, including:- Wellsite geology or operations/geosteering background, with preferred experience in heavy oil horizontal, multilateral, and strat drilling.- Familiarity with heavy oil water and/or polymer-enhanced oil recovery projects.- Proven record in detailed appraisal of development prospects within the Cretaceous Mannville Group in the Lloydminster area.Strong communication skills for effective interaction with field and office staff.Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and analytical skills.Registered with APEGA and in good standing.Seniority levelMid-Senior levelEmployment typeFull-timeJob functionResearch, Analysis, and Information TechnologyIndustriesOil and GasReferrals can double your chances of interviewing at Baytex Energy Corp.
