**About the Role**:
Reporting to the Manager, Career Education - Campus, the Student Development Specialist acts as an early talent development professional to coach students with their career interests and paths. The Specialist trains Brock students with the fundamentals of career development and job search techniques that will achieve employment targets and goals.
**The Student Talent Development Specialist will**:
- Assist students with identifying career options through critical reflection to build on individual capabilities and confidence, overcome employment barriers and strategize on how to market themselves effectively to potential employers;
- Proactively coach students on how to translate past experience into professional skills and ensure students understand how to articulate and integrate those skills into the job market and/or advanced education pursuits;
- Understand the current labour market, career development, recruitment/selection trends, student employment and workplace issues and utilize up-to-date market information to coach students;
- Collaborate with the Curriculum Development Consultant in Co-op, Career and Experiential Education (CCEE), as well as the Talent Development team to research and create resources and workshops that address student career development needs;
- Provide effective training and coaching to students through individual appointments, small group and workshop formats;
- Work with various members of the Career Education Team, including the student team, to engage, support, and promote participation in Career Education activities and events.
- Adopt positive coaching and critical reflection techniques to help students develop high-quality job search documents within set timelines and effective interview techniques that are essential for the success of the job search process;
- Collaborate with the CCEE Team to execute career-related events and effective promotion to students;
- Communicate with industry professionals (on campus, community partners and employers) to facilitate speaker sessions;
- Maintain the student information database for qualitative and quantitative information on students’ training and development;
- Use resume review software (i.e. Vmock) effectively to meet the quality and quantity of document reviews every term;
- Participate, represent, and support work-related activities that may require attendance outside of normal working hours.
**Key Skills and Experience**:
- An undergraduate degree in a related field or equivalent combination of education and experience;
- Experience in recruitment and career coaching activities;
- Knowledge of career development methods and practices;
- Knowledge of industry trends and labour market demands for all programs
- Extensive knowledge of advanced standards for resume preparation;
- Advanced knowledge of current interviewing trends within numerous diverse industries;
- Ability to coach, mentor, persuade, and motivate individuals;
- Ability to work with diverse groups, advising, coaching, and strategizing career planning objectives;
- Proven ability to organize and handle a variety of projects, deadlines, and schedules simultaneously and independently;
- Ability to demonstrate a professional and dynamic presentation style to engage and motivate students in small and large groups;
- Creativity and problem-solving abilities to provide advice and recommendations to students with all aspects of the Career Development process;
- Ability to connect with and engage students, staff and faculty.
- Ability to think critically to leverage existing resources to solve problems.
**Preferred or Asset Skills**:
- Certified Career Development Practitioner’s Certification;
- Human Resources Certification;
- Career Coaching/Mentoring training certification;
- Professional resume writing.
**Salary and Total Rewards**:
- Job Grade J, Salary Scale ($52,920-$90,720);
- Target Hiring Range: $52,920-$55,000
