**Position Summary**:
**The Heavy Equipment Operator is responsible for operating heavy equipment used in mobile or fixed facility and/or project environments including excavators, loaders and other equipment used in facility and/or projects, and in marine and industrial sectors.**

**Job Duties and Responsibilities**
- Operate heavy equipment such as backhoes, excavators, material handler, loaders and skidsteers to excavate, move, load and grade earth, rock, gravel or other materials during upland or marine projects and/or facility related activities.
- Load and unload marine barges
- Assist in docking and securing marine barges
- Assist & support various plant-related activities, such as maintenance and repairs & other labour as required
- Adhere to applicable safety and environmental standards, regulations and company policies.
- Ensure equipment is kept clean.
- Ensure pre/post safety pre-trips are performed.
- General daily equipment maintenance, such as greasing, checking and monitoring fluid levels, reporting machine hours and serving requirements.
- Other duties as required.
- Facility & Equipment
- Do pre and post operational checks on equipment and clean, lubricate and refill equipment.
- Participates in training, inspection, investigation and continuous improvement programs.

**Educational and Technical Requirements**
- Marine industry related operational experience an asset
- Knowledge of excavation techniques and job site traffic flows
- Sound understanding of issues involving ground disturbance
- Equipment Operator Certificates/Training
- First Aid and WHMIS certifications would be an asset.
- Must have a valid driver’s license.

**Experience**

The following experience is required for a Heavy Equipment Operator:

- Five to ten years of progressive experience operating excavators, material handlers, loaders and other equipment.
- Marine industry experience, loading and unloading barges an asset
- Mechanical experience an asset

**Physical Requirements**
- Must be able to lift and control equipment and materials up to 50 lbs.
- Must be able to walk around project sites.
- Manual dexterity is required.
- Spatial perception required.
- Standing & sitting for extended periods.
- Bending, crouching, and kneeling.

**Salary**: $28.00-$33.00 per hour
