Janitorial Services Worker

**JOB SUMMARY**

The Janitorial Services Worker will be responsible for maintaining the cleanliness of our supportive housing residences at 314 Booth and 515 MacLaren. They will create a cleaning schedule for daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly, seasonal, and annual tasks to ensure proactive cleaning is completed for both residences. This is a great opportunity for someone who takes pride in maintaining a clean, safe, and inviting environment.

**RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES**

**1. Cleaning of Common Space & Residential Units**
- Adhere to both regular cleaning and cyclical cleaning schedules;
- Maintain high standards for a sanitary environment;
- Clean and sanitize washrooms daily, staff washroom(s) and common area washroom, replenish tissue paper, paper towel, soap, and hand sanitizer as needed.
- Clean hallways, stairways, dining area, living room, spiritual room, laundry rooms
- Clean business offices, staff room, board room, multipurpose room, and other rooms as required
- Clean residential units as required by Manager;
- Clean residential units after a resident moves out
- Participate in room inspections
- Ensure doorknobs and railings are sanitized;
- Wash floors regularly and buff as required; vacuum carpeted areas and deep clean as required
- Clean windows;
- Ensure waste is regularly removed and waste containers are cleaned inside out on a regular basis;
- Ensure recycle bins are removed and disposed of properly on a regular basis
- Minor moving of furniture as required;
- Be aware of and report any pest sightings and take pro-active steps to control pests;
- Prepare all affected areas for pest control, including residential units;
- Inform supervisor of any needed supplies and order necessary for the completion of assigned duties;
- Respond to all verbal and written requests related to cleaning in a professional and timely manner;
- Participate in relevant meetings.

**2. Safety and Security**
- Comply with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Ontario Accessibility standards
- Be aware of and follow emergency, safety, security, and fire safety procedures and standards;
- Maintain updated WHMIS and Crisis intervention training
- Use all required tools and equipment in a proficient and safe manner, wearing the appropriate personal protective equipment as necessary
- Execute recommendations related to building maintenance and cleaning brought forth from monthly workplace inspections such as: removing debris/obstructions from indoor and outdoor areas, pest control prevention, and other duties as required.

**3. Perform other related duties as assigned**

- Stay current on and compliant with all Cornerstone policies and procedures.
- Attend meetings and training as required;
**QUALIFICATIONS**
- 6 months to 1 year of janitorial or custodian work
- There is no education requirement for this position.
- Ability to comfortably lift up to 30-50 pounds with no restrictions.
- Ability to complete repetitive physical tasks, standing or walking for long periods, bending crouching, kneeling, with no restrictions.
- Demonstrated experience with cleaning
- Task-oriented with the ability to stay organized and achieve deadlines
- Experience safely operating equipment used for cleaning and buffing floors, and other cleaning tools/equipment.
- Health and Safety, First Aid and WHMIS 2015 certifications would be considered assets.
- A sense of pride related to the cleanliness of the buildings
- Strong communication skills
- Must be available to work occasional evenings and weekends.
- A valid G Driver’s license and access to a vehicle

**Job Types**: Full-time, Permanent

**Salary**: $18.20-$18.65 per hour
