Sakihta Kikinaw practices a new housing model Boyle Street is calling “flexible housing.” Beyond traditional short-term housing models, which house people for several months, flexible housing is an intervention service that gives community members a safe space to stay for as long as they need — from several months to several years — before transitioning into long-term housing.
In this role the Team Lead at Sakihta Kikinaw, the Housing Team Lead for Sakihta Kikinaw is responsible for supervising, supporting and directing Follow-Up Support Workers (FSW) within this department. This position includes working in collaboration with the Housing Services Manager and other Team Leads. In addition, the Housing Team Lead works closely with supports workers, and other external agencies if required to ensure a plethora of cohesive services for housing clients. Key Areas of Responsibilities:
- Work in tandem with other Team Leads and within the BSCS agency and other external agencies to ensure there is appropriate coordination among programs that support tenants.
- Support in processing referrals, intakes, partnership meetings, case conferencing, committees, etc.
- Facilitate and oversee tenancy management, including but not limited to: intakes, rent roll, distributing notices and warnings, dismissals, room turnover, damage deposit collection, etc.
- Engage and build rapport with individuals living at Stovel Block and provide them with a wide range of programs and service that best suit their needs.
- Provide ongoing support and supervision to support staff.
- Participate in hiring process.
- Develop schedules & activities, in conjunction with supporting staff, to provide or facilitate programing to bring people together and build stronger relationships.
- Provide support to residents as needed and liaise with support workers as required.
- Make connections and foster relationships with external stakeholders, organizations, & agencies to bring in programing and encourage volunteering and employment.
- Manage and coordinate repairs, maintenance, installations, landscaping, etc., as required (both preventative and emergency maintenance).
- Work collaboratively with other Boyle Street programs to ensure there is appropriate coordination among programs supporting residents.
- Distributing tenant notices as required.
- Assess residents’ barriers and needs to assist, support, and advocate for them.
- Coordinate referrals to other support services, that may include: mental health supports, addiction treatment, family doctors, income supports, budgeting and/or financial literacy, etc.
- Maintain, delegate, and balance staff caseloads, responsibilities, and privileges.
- Ensure all data reporting is completed properly and within the required deadlines.
- Ensure payments are being collected appropriately by tenants.
- Make sure tenants are treated ethically and with a degree of professionalism by staff.
- Support Follow-Up Support Workers with case management and assessment to ensure required documentation is collected and completed.
- Coordinate and facilitate educational meetings and workshops for staff and tenants.
- Support in processing referrals, intakes, partnership meetings, case conferencing, committees. Responsible for goal setting and transition planning.
- BSCS is more than a workplace. It is a community where everyone helps and contributes to the whole, and there is an expectation that all employees will take part in events (during the work week and occasionally during weekends and evenings). This includes fundraising campaigns, running community meals, medicine picking etc.
Education, Experience & Skills:
- Post Secondary Degree in a relevant field and/or work experience and knowledge in the Human Services field
- Minimum 2 years of experience in delivering community-based services.
- Minimum one year experience in leading and building teams
- Experience working with vulnerable and marginalized populations.
- Experience working in a residential setting would be an asset.
- Knowledge of Landlord & Tenant Legislation
- Works from a trauma-informed lens.
- Experience and knowledge in women’s health and wellness as well as female-identifying lifestyle aspects
