**Position Summary**
The Nature Conservancy of Canada (NCC) is looking for a self-motivated, curious and communications-savvy individual to join our Public Affairs and Communications team as a Coordinator Communications, External Affairs. This role will help us engage the public and media around the impact of nature conservation on Canada’s landscapes, wildlife and communities.
**Accountabilities**:
- Write and edit a wide range of communications materials, including news releases, op-eds, backgrounders, talking points, social media copy, and briefing materials.
- Support proactive and reactive media relations, including pitching stories, coordinating media requests, and maintaining media lists and relationships.
- Conduct media and issue monitoring to track NCC coverage and sector trends; identify opportunities to insert NCC’s voice into timely conversations.
- Contribute to communications evaluation using analytics tools (e.g., Google Analytics, Meltwater, social platform insights); prepare summaries and PowerPoint presentations to share results and insights with internal stakeholders.
- Take ownership of outcomes, accept feedback constructively, and stay focused on delivering results with integrity.
**Skills & Competencies**:
- Strong writing and editing skills across formats and platforms, with an ability to communicate clearly and compellingly for diverse audiences.
- Knowledge of the Canadian media landscape and experience supporting media relations activities (pitching, media tracking, materials development).
- Solid understanding of digital and social media tools (e.g., X/Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn) and their role in public engagement.
- Proficiency with Microsoft 365 (PowerPoint, Word, Outlook, Teams, Excel).
- Experience creating effective, visually clear PowerPoint presentations.
- Strong time management, organizational skills, and ability to juggle multiple projects in a fast-paced, virtual environment.
- Highly organized and detail-oriented, with the ability to work independently, manage logistics, and meet deadlines.
- Self-motivated, curious, solutions-oriented and accountable.
- Demonstrates attention to detail and a high standard for work output.
- Experience working independently in a virtual or hybrid team environment.
- Bonus: familiarity with Adobe InDesign or other visual design tools.
- Bilingualism in French and English is an asset.
**Experience Required**:
- 2-3 years of professional experience in communications, media relations, public relations, or journalism, preferably in an environmental, public interest, or adjacent sector.
- Bachelor’s degree or diploma in a related field (Communications, Journalism, English, Public Relations) is preferred.
