The Faculty of Forestry comprises of the Office of the Dean, three Departments (Forest Resources Management, Forest and Conservation Sciences, and Wood Science), four centres (Centre for Advanced Wood Processing; the Asian Forestry Research Centre; Centre for Wildlife co-existence (joint with UBC-Okanagan Faculty of Science), Centre for Indigenous Land Stewardship), two research forests (Malcolm Knapp Research Forest - coastal, Alex Fraser Research Forest - central interior), and two institutes (the Haida Gwaii Institute and the BioProducts Institute (joint with UBC Applied Science Faculty).

The Faculty’s personnel footprint includes over 100+ faculty members, 50+ term appointees/ lecturers and approximately 100 continuing administrative staff.

The Accounts Payable Manager is responsible for overseeing the AP activities for the Faculty of Forestry including accounts payable, vendor relationships, financial reporting and related process improvement. This role provides leadership to the Finance Hub team, ensures compliance with university policies and procedures, and ensures the effective stewardship of Faculty funds. Acting as a key liaison between the Faculty and central units such as Procurement and Research Finance, the AP Manager contributes process improvements and ensures alignment with UBC's financial procedures and academic goals.

The Accounts Payable Manager, reports to the Associate Director, Finance, while working closely with central Finance Operations, the Faculty’s finance team, the department administrators as well as program directors

Work Performed- Leads the development and implementation of policies, standards, and procedures to improve financial operations within the Finance Hub (e.g. accounting procedures, financial information flow, administrative procedures, workflow, records retention, or internal controls).- Responsible for and manages end-to-end Accounts Payable annual (AP) cycle for the entire faculty, including providing directions and assigning work to the AP clerks, performing month-end and fiscal year-end procedures, and ensuring full compliance with UBC’s financial policies, CRA regulations, and internal control frameworks. Partners with Central Procurement Services and Financial Operations to address complex vendor disputes, resolve tax coding issues, and maintain up-to-date vendor records.- Ensures alignment with UBC’s Payment Card and Signing Authority policies by conducting periodic audits and resolving non-compliance issues related to research and operational spending.- Manages the AP team, including, recruitment, performance management, terminations, and daily workflow coordination. Mentor, coach and develop staff to ensure that they are able to effectively perform their daily work and strive for service excellence.- Develops and delivers comprehensive financial reports and in-depth analysis to support strategic decision-making at the Faculty and departmental levels. These may include but are not limited to multi-year financial forecasts, variance analyses, and funding utilization reports for academic programs.- Collaborates directly with Principal Investigators and senior faculty leadership to investigate and resolve complex financial discrepancies in research accounts, such as misallocated grant expenditures or expired funding recoveries.- Proactively monitors key financial performance indicators—such as burn rates, budget monitoring, and compliance with Tri-Agency guidelines—to identify trends, mitigate risks, and recommend proc
