Site Safety Advisor

Health and safety advisers are responsible for keeping people safe at their work sites. They assist in developing policies and procedures to make sure people are not harmed by their jobs, investigate, and report accidents, and provide guidance to leaders on how to comply with the law. They may also take responsibility for health-related projects, such as organizing talks and training for staff.
**Required Skills**:
Ability to effectively work within a group and problem solve.
Display a clear and concise decision-making approach.
Demonstrate strong leadership skills within the health and safety discipline.
Ability to organize, plan and prioritize work requirements effectively with mínimal direction.
Understanding of technical certifications (journeyman, etc.) for specific skills.
Strong written and oral communication.
Strong Interpersonal skills supporting a coaching and mentoring approach.
A solid understanding of safety procedures.
Be familiar with and understand the Health and Safety legislation and regulations
**Qualification and Education Requirement**
Minimum OFA Level 2 or greater
Injury management
Incident investigation training or experience
Minimum 5 years in construction
Certified CSO or NCSO preferred
COR audit valid certification or working towards
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, managing various duties, while meeting scheduled deadlines.
Full understanding and working knowledge of Pedre’s Occupational Health and Safety
Valid class 5 drivers’ license
**Key Responsibilities**
Provide leadership, direction, training, and expertise toward the implementation of Health and Safety Management programs by internal stakeholders and contractors
Investigating health-related complaints and cases of ill health (Covid-19)
Carrying out risk assessments as needed
Participate in and manage internal field audits and inspections.
Keep an inventory on all safety related items (Fall protection, Confined Space, General PPE)
Place supply requests for PPE inventory when needed
Review confined space entry procedures and sign off’s
Ensure fall protection plans are being completed
Participate in rescue drills
Active member of the Emergency Support Team.
Ensure that equipment is being installed correctly and safely
Identify potential hazards and corrective actions
Determining ways of reducing risks
Compiling safety statistics and writing reports
Running health and safety meetings for all workers including sub-contractors
Act as point of contact for local, provincial, or federal regulatory groups within assigned regional area of responsibility
Keeping up to date and ensuring compliance with current health and safety legislation.
Completing all new hire and sub-contractors ‘orientations.
Ensure that the site safety board is up to date and relevant
Review and update FLHA’s for all employees and subcontractors
Ensure equipment daily inspections are completed
Act as coach/mentor/resource regarding safety issues to field teams.
Provide operational Health and Safety support for field activities
