**Research Assistant, Community Health and Epidemiology**:
**CPAC/HPV Immunization Project**:In early 2020, the Canadian Partnership Against Cancer (CPAC) called on health care providers and communities across Canada to eliminate cervical cancer in Canada by 2040. The UPHN was commissioned to lead the first priority of the plan: to improve HPV immunization rates. The first phase of this work involved understanding: a) What the coverage rates are for HPV across Canada, and; b) What the barriers are for families receiving the HPV vaccinations, across Canada. The second phase of this project will drive movement towards achieving system-level outcomes to increase HPV immunization in school-based and youth-focused programs and reaching Canada’s HPV immunization target. This involves co-developing, implementing and evaluating innovative education and program delivery strategies for HPV immunization in a variety of jurisdictions.
**Nature of Work**: This project falls under the work of the Urban Public Health Network Research Group. The UPHN is a network of Medical Officers of Health who oversee public health in Canada’s leading urban centres. Representing 23 cities across the country, the network’s members are responsible for overseeing the population health of more than half of Canadians. This work is collaborative in nature and will include working closely alongside the UPHN project team, under the supervision of UPHN President and Associate Professor in Community Health and Epidemiology, Dr. Cory Neudorf and Project Lead, Mika Rathwell, and in partnership with the Canadian Partnership Against Cancer and several regional public health organizations across Canada. All publications will follow **USASK policies and procedures on intellectual property** and UPHN guidelines.
**Typical Duties or Accountabilities**:Activities of the research associate will include, but are not limited to the following core responsibilities:
- Lead the development of collaborative manuscripts
- Prepare and submit scholarly articles
- Assist with the planning and coordination of partner meetings
- Work with project team on the development of a national HPV immunization community-of-practice with public health leaders and staff from partner organizations
- Assist in the development of scientific grant proposals
- Other duties as assigned
**Education**: Graduate degree in health or other relevant discipline.
**Experience**:Based on the **Public Health Core Competencies**, the UPHN is seeking someone with demonstrable experience in: policy and program planning, implementation and evaluation; analysis and evaluation of public and population health and health-related policies and programs; conducting survey and focus-groups, and; community-based, patient-oriented research. Graduate-level training in a related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience coordinating research in clinical and/or non-clinical settings is preferred. Familiarity with community-based research, survey research and/or epidemiological research is preferred. This position will involve ensuring that deliverables and outcomes are achieved on many simultaneous national-level sub-projects. Project planning and management, writing skills, and attention to detail are important in this role.
**Skills**: Excellent written and analytical skills are essential in this role. Demonstrated capacity for team support and experience with knowledge synthesis and translation are also important.
