About the Role Headquartered out of Brampton, ON., MJardin Group is looking to bring on an experienced Financial Controller onto our Finance team. Based on a hybrid working (< 20% travel) model and reporting into the Head of Finance, the Controller will play a pivotal role in leading MJardin's Finance and Accounting functions as well as the delivery of effective financial processes and controls that support the business' objectives and operational needs. **Responsibilities**: - Manage the day-to-day operations of the Finance and Accounting team at MJardin - Mentor and lead the Finance and Accounting team - Define, measure, analyze, improve, and sustain current processes which impact customer quality or cost and influence internal operating efficiency - Manage reporting functions at MJardin Group - Ensure compliance with all corporate tax requirements provincially and federally - Oversee the review of journal entries, accounts payable, accounts receivable and statutory reporting - Prepare, analyze, and present to MJardin’s Senior Management, monthly, quarterly, and annual operating results - Monitor internal controls; ensure that accounting activities are in accordance with established legal, regulatory and MJardin’s internal policies and procedures - Manage customer, government, and year-end financial audits, statements, and preparation of audited annual financial statements to deliver a seamless outcome - Assist the Head of Finance in the development and implementation of short - and long-term financial plans and forecasts in accordance with business goals and objectives - Collaborate with internal stakeholders to create and execute MJardin’s annual budget and long-term financial plans; analyze actual expenses against benchmarks and communicate to senior management - Administer MJardin’s funds according to the approved budget and channels, and monitor all financial expenditures - Develop and maintain effective relationships with government agencies, regulatory bodies, and professional organizations such as consultancy and auditing firms - Prepare reports, as needed, that outline financial position in the areas of income, expenses, and earnings based on past, present, and future operations - Other duties as required. Job Requirements - Degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business - Must possess a CPA designation in good standing - 6+ years’ experience in Accounting and Finance, providing oversight, being directly involved, and making day-to-day decisions - Previous experience as a Controller is strongly preferred - Previous experience managing a small team is required - Previous experience working in a relevant industry, such as cannabis, CPG, etc., organization, is strongly preferred - Familiarity with accounting software, including QuickBooks and other ERP systems - Strong computer skills and proficiency with MS Office (especially Excel) - Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English; ability to write, read and comprehend technical documents, such as SOPs.
