Department of Environment and Climate Change (novascotia.ca) About Our Opportunity Reporting to the Executive Director Sustainability & Applied Science, the Director of Water Resources Management is responsible to lead the development, integration and implementation of a broad range of comprehensive water and wastewater management strategies, programs and policies for protecting Nova Scotia's water resources. The Director works collaboratively to ensure that mechanisms are in place to support effective program delivery, and to achieve the department's goals, and goals defined in the Environmental Goals and Climate Change Reduction Act (EGCCRA). They will also be responsible for leading a staff complement that supports the work of the department by providing professional, scientifically sound, technical advice related to water resources management programs. Primary Accountabilities **The Director, Water Resource Management is responsible for**: Leading water and wastewater program management to ensure departmental legislation, regulations, standards, policies, and procedures are effective in managing risks. Planning, developing, and directing the implementation of Provincial environmental strategies, programs and policies designed to protect human and environmental health and to support sustainable development Providing strategic advice to senior executives, and to Deputy Minister Leading a team in the development of measurable outcomes, evaluation and the development of strategies for continuous improvement. Developing and maintaining collaborative relationships and partnerships across department divisions as well as with other departments, the federal government, municipalities, nongovernmental organizations, industry, academia, and professional associations. Provides broad oversight and direction to managers and contributors, ensuring the effective implementation of human resource strategies, budgets, Occupational Health & Safety and quality client service. Qualifications and Experience Bachelor's degree in a related field plus six years of related experience, including progressively responsible experience and experience in a leadership position. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be acceptable. Experience managing programs is necessary, such as planning, developing, implementing, monitoring, and effecting change on programs. Experience working with legislation, regulations, standards, and policies is required, as well as experience providing advice and recommendations to senior executives. Highly advanced innovation, creativity, flexibility, and problem-solving capabilities. Excellent verbal and written communication skills and capability to take decisive action. Experience developing relationships and partnerships with multiple stakeholders. Ability to lead staff in fostering a team approach to developing strategies, policies and standards. Ability to think conceptually and see the "big picture" but also be able to synthesize complex information and ideas into tangible recommendations to decision makers.
