- Lead, inspire, and mentor project teams.
- Oversee municipal official plan reviews from planning to impact analysis and tracking.
- Represent the ministry as a land use planning expert.
- Provide planning advice to ensure compliance with provincial policies.
- Resolve contentious land use planning issues.
- Communicate land use planning legislation, policies, and procedures to staff and clients.
- Advise senior management on land use planning issues to support decision-making.
**Note: This position requires occasional travel within the region to conduct field work**
**What you bring to the team**:
**Leadership and Project Management Skills**: You have:
- Leadership and project management skills to lead multi-disciplinary and multi-jurisdictional teams, plan, organize, and execute concurrent major land use planning projects and policy initiatives.
- Proven ability to collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to resolve complex land-use planning issues within defined timelines.
- Ability to lead teams in analyzing land-use planning policies, ensuring alignment with provincial legislation, and providing guidance and technical advice.
- Proven ability to champion project management approaches, mentor and coach staff, and provide expert advice to management and clients on performance improvement.
**Communication, Negotiation & Relationship Skills**: You can:
- Prepare accurate and efficient briefing materials, responses, correspondence, and policy products.
- Represent the government with stakeholders and as part of inter-ministerial committees and other bodies.
- Explain complex land-use planning concepts to non-planners and lead briefings for senior management, the Minister, and stakeholders.
- Use political acuity to inform management of emerging issues, provide advice, and develop options for decision-makers.
- Build consensus and resolve issues among diverse stakeholders across MMAH divisions, partner ministries and others.
- Foster collaborative and productive relationships with team members and stakeholders.
**Technical Knowledge**: You have:
- Expert knowledge of land use planning systems, policies, and legislation (e.g., Provincial Planning Statement, Planning Act).
- Knowledge of or ability to acquire knowledge of Ontario government priorities and policy development processes.
- Ability to develop policy options and recommendations aligned with government priorities for land use planning and development approvals.
- Strong grasp of planning theories, principles, practices, and professional standards, enabling effective project management, informed decision-making, and credible expert testimony at hearings.
**Research, Analytical and Problem-Solving Skills**: You can:
- Lead research to identify impacts and develop recommendations on complex land-use
