As a member of the healthcare interdisciplinary team the Laboratory Assistant is delegated to perform detailed functions, for Georgian Bay General Hospital to assist in the provision of patient care and facilitate the performance and reporting of laboratory tests.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

**Required**:

- Medical Laboratory Technician Certification or equivalent
- Effectively perform venipuncture and ECG on adult and paediatric patients
- Proficient keyboarding and computer skills
- Ability to work with automation and to perform maintenance, specimen preparation, specimen loading and other laboratory duties under the guidance of a technologist
- Knowledge of Laboratory Safety
- Effective communication skills oral and written
- Ability to work accurately
- Ability to work effectively independently and as part of a team
- Demonstrated satisfactory work performance and attendance history
- Commitment to providing an exceptional experience for staff and clients within a challenging and exciting health care environment.
- Demonstrated satisfactory work performance and attendance history

**Preferred**:

- Previous related experience in a hospital setting

**Assets**:

- Bilingual - English and French
- Meditech Expanse system experience

**Hours of Work**: Permanent Part Time Job Share, scheduled up to 24 hours a week. Must be available to work shifts including days, evenings, nights and weekends. Shifts and hours may change according to departmental requirements and as per the OPSEU collective agreement.

**Salary**:$27.30 - $31.47 an hour. You will receive an additional 14% in lieu of benefits (or 10% if eligible to enroll in HOOPP) and 6% vacation.

**Pension Plan**: Healthcare of Ontario Pension Plan (“HOOPP”).
