In our ever-changing environment, the Government Relations team is accountable for the development and execution of YVR’s public affairs program—and manages relationships with all levels of government, stakeholders, and communities in relation to YVR operations, initiatives and projects.
**Position overview**
Are you interested in utilizing your strong analytical, research and interpersonal skills to help shape the Legislative Affairs agenda at YVR? Do you have a blend of policy analysis, government relations, or stakeholder engagement skills? Do you enjoy coalition building and bringing partners together in pursuit of a shared strategic goal?
We have a permanent, full-time opportunity for a **Public Affairs Officer**. Reporting to the Manager, Government Relations, the Public Affairs Officer is a key contributor to YVR’s External Affairs team and will be responsible for government engagement, policy analysis and stakeholder relations. They will develop influential communications materials to support the advocacy and outreach program on YVR’s most high-profile issues, projects, and policy development priorities. You can give policy briefings on relevant projects and issues on short notice, and respond to tight deadlines and urgent matters, without neglecting longer-term deliverables. You will represent YVR publicly and will develop and maintain relationships with municipal, provincial, and federal governments.
**Key responsibilities include**:
- Supporting multiple, concurrent projects while balancing ad hoc requests to advance defined corporate and operational objectives
- Conducting quantitative and qualitative research and analysis on public policy issues and developing organizational positions and advocacy plans
- Preparing written communications reflecting research results and YVR’s corporate position
- Developing options and recommendations for developing partnerships with federal, provincial, and local governments and agencies
- Liaising with federal, provincial, and local government and agency counterparts to proactively manage emerging issues
- Actively monitoring relevant government and business trends, parliamentary activity, and the policy development processes
**Key qualifications include**:
- At least two years’ experience in a public policy, research, economic or legislative environment, supplemented by a post-secondary degree in political science, communications, public relations or a related field; or an equivalent combination of training and experience
- Proven ability to write reports and briefs, as well as prepare highly complex material for various audiences
- Understanding of the aviation sector and its role in the Canadian economy and a keen interest in government relations, politics and public policy
- Demonstrated knowledge of Canadian provincial and federal legislative frameworks, including local government and Indigenous governance
- Proactive, self-starter and effective self-manager who can work well interdependently in a collaborative environment with cross-functional colleagues
- Fluency in French is an asset
