**Duties of the Position**:
The Research Grants and Contracts Facilitator is an essential member of the Scholarship, Research, and Creative Activity team. The Facilitator is relied upon for a myriad of key tasks, including:

- Developing and maintaining working knowledge of other relevant funding agencies that align to VIU researchers
- Reviewing legal and administrative contracts for research and coordinating with VIU Contracts Specialists, Risk Management, and General Counsel to identify and mitigate risk, negotiate agreement changes, and recommend contracts for approval
- Assisting researchers to understand and comply with VIU policies and procedures, guidelines and regulations as per the Tri-Agency Guide on Financial Administration and with other sponsor obligations
- Acting as a liaison between granting agency program officers and project leaders to obtain information, solve complex problems using risk assessment knowledge, and prepare and send additional documentation
- Engaging with faculty to understand their research and funding needs to facilitate the identification and support of collaborative cross-Faculty research proposals
- Actively participating in the development of research proposals as administrative lead
- Assisting the researcher to understand grant compliance requirements and support post-award management
- Contributing substantially to the development and revision of research policy and procedures
- Working collaboratively with the Director of Graduate Studies and Student Research and other key VIU contacts to act as a backup administrator for Mitacs student programs, CEWIL iHub, and other student research programs
- Liaising with personnel from VIU service departments and Faculties as needed in the administration of research funding and subsequent awards including Financial Services, Human Resources, Payroll, Purchasing and the Centre for Experiential Learning
- Establishing and maintaining superior working relationships with VIU researchers, VIU administrators, Directors of Research Centers and Institutes, and external stakeholders
- Assisting with the collection and compilation of research performance metrics for internal and external reporting
- Building research capacity at VIU by convening and delivering workshops and presentations, information sessions and individual consultations
- Participating in professional development activities to continue professional growth and learning
- Ensuring accuracy and maintenance of the research records in the research management system (Romeo)
- Functioning as a member of a team focused on proactive, efficient, and customer service-oriented workflow and office procedures.

**Education**:
Master's degree with a research component or business degree with a legal component from an accredited institution.
