The Strategic Policy Division at the Ministry of the Solicitor General is seeking a motivated, strategic policy professional who is interested in contributing to complex policy initiatives as part of broader public safety sector transformation. You will provide policy research and analytical services on policy issues/initiatives related to emergency management and intergovernmental justice and public safety issues for the Ministry of the Solicitor General. What can I expect to do in this role? **In this role, you will**: - Undertake policy and issues analysis - Develop/draft in-depth analysis to generate evidence based, reports and, policy material (e.g. Cabinet submissions, legislative/regulatory amendments) - Research various sources of information/data to analyze and report on current and emerging issues related to justice and community safety - Build collaborative relationships and liaise with key internal and external partners, including Indigenous partners and stakeholders in other jurisdictions and other broad justice sector organizations - Prepare policy analyses, communications, draft presentations and briefing materials (e.g. briefing notes, House notes, advice notes) - Provide support to multi-jurisdictional working groups involved in policy review and development - Participate and lead sub-project groups by preparing work plans, responsibility charts and providing status updates for project leads and management How do I qualify? Policy Analysis and Critical Thinking Skills **You have**: - Knowledge and understanding of program and policy development processes and government legislative/decision-making and planning processes - Ability to prepare draft policy and program options/recommendations and respond to public inquiries Communication and Presentation Skills **You can**: - Respond to information and issues requests, draft reports and policy documents, correspondence, briefing notes and materials for inclusion in policy and decision-making documents - Present policy and program options/recommendations to senior staff - Respond to information requests within short deadlines, in a fast-paced environment Relationship Management and Consultation Skills **You can**: - Develop and maintain relationships across the OPS and with key stakeholders including Indigenous partners and interjurisdictional stakeholders to identify and resolve potential issues and problems - Gather and exchange information, identify potential issues, seek solutions, collaborate on projects and discuss policy changes - Work collaboratively with team members to manage deadlines and competing priorities, identify potential issues and formulate solutions - Review, assess and summarize stakeholder comments and feedback to incorporate into proposed solutions and recommendations Research, Analysis and Organizational Skills **You can**: - Undertake research studies using several sources of information - Provide project planning and leadership on concurrent policy development projects - Identify stakeholder and emerging sector issues, analyze competing interests, define problems and examine policy options Computer Skills
