These positions are temporary, 40 hours per week for the summer period. Monday to Friday day shift.

Reporting to the Manager of Buildings and Grounds the incumbent ensures college property is safe during the summer season for all staff, students, and visitors of the Barrie Campus.

SPECIFIC DUTIES include, but are not limited to:

- General labour including raking, shoveling, seeding and sodding of newly graded areas
- Collection of refuse, recyclables and litter, brush removal
- Filling potholes in roadways and parking lots with cold patch
- Preparation of flower beds, planting, transplanting, weeding and pruning of annuals, trees and shrubs
- Mowing and trimming grass
- Installation of new posts, signs and various other site amenities
- Washing/cleaning/maintaining vehicles & equipment
- Painting; interior & exterior
- Organizing and transporting resources and furniture
- Assisting skilled trades with plumbing, carpentry, HVAC, electrical projects at all college buildings and structures
- Travel to other campuses to complete landscaping projects and maintenance
- Set-up and preparation for special events
- Other related duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS:

- Experience in landscaping and/or property maintenance
- The incumbent shall possess mechanical aptitude to perform a variety of mechanical tasks including use of hand and power tools and equipment related to the job (i.e. shovels, rakes, lawn mowers, grass trimmers)
- Experience with maintenance equipment including lawn mowers, line trimmers, etc.
- Experience with agricultural equipment (loaders, tractors) would be an asset
- Knowledge of safe working practices
- Must be able and willing to meet the physical demands of the position (physical ability to rake, shovel, mow, lift etc.)
- Communication skills (oral and written)
- A valid G2/G driver’s license and clean drivers abstract is preferred
- Self-starter with a proven ability to work independently and within a team environment
- Ability to take direction and execute with attention to detail.

ELIGIBILITY:
Applicants must be registered and returning to full time student status for the upcoming academic year to be eligible for these positions.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

- Safety footwear and other applicable PPE will be provided
- Safety training session is mandatory
