**Position Type**: Part time Temporary -1.0 FTE

**Shift**: 8:30 pm - 4: 15 pm

**Position Summary**:
The Volunteer Coordinator will support and enhance residents’ quality of life and social activities through promoting volunteer participation and programming at all sites. The Volunteer Coordinator is responsible for the development, implementation, management and evaluation of the volunteer program, which will promote Intercare’s ability to achieve its vision of becoming “The Heart of Excellence”.

**Qualifications**:
**1.**Graduate of a post secondary program in Volunteer Management, Therapeutic Recreation or a related field.

**2.**Prior experience in Volunteer Management.

**3.**Strong communication skills (written and verbal).

**4.**Ability to work independently and to work effectively as a team member.

**5.**Strong problem solving and organizational skills.

**6.**Demonstrates an understanding of issues related to Volunteers in a continuing care setting.

**7.**Identifies and analyzes situations and problems such that viable solutions are found.

**8.**Ability to travel to all Intercare facilities in Calgary.

**Responsibilities**:
**1. Accountability - Promote Intercare’s vision of being “The Heart of Excellence”.**

ii. Through modeling and teaching, support Intercare’s purpose to maintain dignity, offer choice and support growth to those we serve.
iii. Incorporate the Core Commitments into all volunteer development opportunities.

**2. Accountability - Recruit, interview and select applicants suitable for volunteer positions.**

Performance Expectations:
i. Recruit applicants from a variety of sources including but not limited to: family, Propellus, schools, community groups, and places of worship.
ii. Screen applicants by using a process of interviewing, security clearance by Calgary Police or a designated security company and references.
iii. Place applicants in appropriate positions.

**3. Accountability - Ensure that volunteers are adequately orientated and that continuing educational opportunities exist.**

Performance Expectations:
i. Develop, implement and undertake an orientation program for volunteers, updating as necessary.
ii. Collaborate with staff and volunteers to assess, develop and implement educational opportunities for volunteers.
iii. Develop and distribute Volunteer Handbook, updating as necessary.
iv. Ensure the rights of privacy and confidentiality are respected.
v. Has a working knowledge of Intercare Volunteer Policy Manual and ensures compliance of the same.

**4. Accountability - Ensure that volunteers are supported, supervised and successful in their roles.**

Performance Expectations:
i. Maintain contact with volunteers to ensure they are adequately orientated and supported in their role.
ii. Coordinate with the Management Team to ensure volunteers receive adequate supervision and support.
iii. Provide an avenue for volunteers to provide and receive feedback.
iv. Evaluate effectiveness of volunteer program from an individual and organizational standpoint, responding to any changing needs identified.
v. Demonstrate sensitivity and flexibility to the changing needs of resident programming and organization.

**5. Accountability - Promote Intercare as a good corporate citizen.**

Performance Expectations:
i. Cultivate relationships with the community that may include but is not limited to: Propellus, Association of Directors of Volunteer Resources, schools, community groups and places of worship.
ii. Promote recruitment and ongoing retention of volunteers on
iii. Work to promote volunteering from within family groups.
iv. Seek opportunities to involve corporate volunteer programs.
v. Educate the internal Intercare community about the volunteer role.

**6. Accountability - Maintain records for individual volunteers and the volunteer services program including quality improvement and monitoring and controlling the annual volunteer budget.**
