Your Opportunity:
The Rockyview General Hospital Eye Clinic is a dynamic, high-volume ambulatory clinic caring for over 33,000 patients per year. The Eye Clinic offers a variety of ophthalmic sub-specialties including oncology, glaucoma, retina, low vision, comprehensive, neuro-ophthalmology, adult strabismus, as well as an urgent eye clinic that operates 365 days per year. To support these subspecialties, we offer high-quality, diagnostic testing including ultrasound, photography, visual fields and electrophysiology, and more. As a Technician, you will be responsible for carrying out diagnostic procedures and evaluations according to the standard procedures of the clinic. You will work closely with other members of the multidisciplinary team including other ophthalmic technical personnel, administrative staff, nurses, and physicians. Therefore, you must be a strong team player. The successful incumbent must have a thorough knowledge of ophthalmic diseases, be alert to any signs of the potential risk to the patient and be able to take the necessary steps to ensure the patient’s safety. You will also be required to demonstrate proficiency in multi-tasking/prioritization, stress tolerance and resiliency, promotion of a positive and respectful work environment, attention to detail, and professional communication with internal and external stakeholders.
Description:
As an Ophthalmic Technician I, you will perform technical work involving the use of a variety of testing equipment to measure and evaluate visual field, retinal function and intraocular pressure in order to evaluate conditions affecting the eye. You will perform diagnostic Ophthalmic procedures under the direction of an Ophthalmologist. You will prepare patients for laser and minor procedures and instruct and educate the client/patient on procedure and equipment.

**Required Qualifications**:
Certification by the Joint Commission on Allied Health Personnel in Ophthalmology (JCAHPO).
**Additional Required Qualifications**:
Minimum 2 years experience as an Ophthalmic Technician. Proficiency in patient workups including history taking, applanation tonometry, slit-lamp examinations, visual field testing, optical biometry, refractometry, optical coherence tomography, ophthalmic photography and angiography. Understanding of ophthalmic pharmacology. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. CPR certified. Must consistently demonstrate AHS core values of compassion, accountability, respect, excellence and safety.
**Preferred Qualifications**:
Minimum 2 years experience as an Ophthalmic Technician in a hospital setting. Prior experience with Goldmann visual fields, electrophysiology and ocular ultrasound experience is not required but may be an asset.
