**Job Type**: TEMPORARY PART TIME (up to 12 months)

**Job Outline**:
The Clinical Utilization Specialist is a part of the Utilization Management team. This position provides expertise in capacity/bed management, understanding and supporting the clinical implications of admitting, discharge and transfers and ensures the efficient and effective completion of tools required to manage patient complexity, resource requirements and clinical outcomes. This position will work with Patient Care Managers, Directors and other clinical leadership staff to provide advice, support, guidance and direction with respect to issues of clinical utilization, patient complexity and workload. It is also responsible for identifying, communicating and implementing processes to address issues of clinical utilization, patient complexity and workload.

**Education & Qualifications**:

- Baccalaureate degree required, preferably in Nursing or Health Information
- Advanced knowledge base of MDS and RUGIII Patient Classification Systems, NRS, NACRS, WTIS and working knowledge of workload measurement
- Knowledge of MIS/OHRS guidelines
- Knowledge of hospital processes and their interrelationships
- Superior oral and written communication skills
- Demonstrated knowledge of continuous quality improvement process cycle including benchmarking and analyzing industry standards
- Demonstrated understanding of product improvement and /or service quality and customer satisfaction, reducing defects and errors, organizational effectiveness and on-time delivery
- Demonstrated ability to perform data collection, integration, analysis and reporting on organization-wide projects assigned
- Demonstrated understanding and supporting the clinical implications of admitting, discharge and transfers
- Demonstrated teaching/facilitation skills
- Demonstrated analytical and project management skills
- Quality orientation
- 5-7 years recent clinical experience; expertise in capacity/bed management preferred
- Strong ability to manage multiple projects, resources and initiatives in a deadline driven environment.
- Excellent analytical and problem solving skills.
- Strong ability to demonstrate professionalism, integrity, diplomacy and tact.
