The Projects and Initiatives Coordinator works under the direction of the Manager of Indigenous Relations and takes a leadership role in contributing to divisional and organizational goals within a cooperative, collaborative, strategic, and dynamic environment. The coordinator is responsible for managing the development and implementation of programs and special projects in collaboration with First Nations, Inuit, and Métis people; urban Indigenous agencies; groups serving Indigenous children, youth, and families; Elders and Knowledge Keepers; civic departments; and, other levels of government.

The coordinator plays a leadership role in advancing the City’s commitments to reconciliation through divisional and corporate programs and strategies such as Welcoming Winnipeg: Reconciling Our History policy; Winnipeg’s Indigenous Accord; MMIWG2S+ Calls for Justice; TRC Calls to Action; Oshki Anishinaabe Nigaaniwak, the City’s Indigenous Youth Strategy; the Poverty Reduction Strategy; affordable housing strategies; and, OurWinnipeg 2045.

**As the **_Projects & Initiatives Coordinator_**_, _**you will**:

- Initiate, coordinate, and manage the development and implementation of divisional programming and special projects on behalf of the Manager to ensure that the Indigenous Relations Division’s strategies as well as other divisional and departmental priorities are being addressed.
- Monitor, track, and report on the status of projects, including their objectives, outputs, and outcomes.
- Oversee the development, administration, and monitoring of funding agreements that support the corporate wide strategy of increasing the participation of Indigenous people in the civic system.
- Oversee the development and implementation of a regular communications strategy that encompasses the sharing of project highlights, events, progress, outcomes, and success stories, in cooperation with the Customer Service and Communications Department.
- Provide advice and guidance to the organization on matters involving First Nations, Inuit, and Métis interests and priorities, and the City’s commitments to reconciliation.
- Participate and provide support in the development and maintenance of divisional, project, and program budgets.
- Provide supervision, mentoring, and guidance to assigned employees as well as indirect employees involved in divisional projects, programs, and strategies.

**Your education and qualifications include**:

- Bachelor’s degree, Faculties of Arts or Business; Or other post-secondary education in Indigenous governance, Native studies, history, sociology, political studies, or other areas of study related to the position; Or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- A minimum of 2 years of experience involving Indigenous relations and partnerships; or First Nations, Métis, Inuit program development or management; or urban Indigenous program development or service delivery.
- A minimum of 2 years of experience in managing projects or project development and implementation.
- Experience working with various types of contracts.
- Relevant knowledge of First Nations, Métis, and Inuit historical experiences, current interests, and priorities.
- Leadership skills in the area of initiating and sustaining relationships with Indigenous Peoples, communities, and/or groups.
- Strong analytical, research, problem solving, and decision-making skills.
- Strong facilitation and collaboration skills.
- Strong verbal communication skills, including the ability to present information to internal and external stakeholders.
- Excellent written communication skills giving attention to critical details.
- Ability to supervise, mentor, and provide guidance and direction to junior employees.
- Strong time management and organizational skills with experience adhering to strict deadlines.
- Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to work in a positive, collaborative, and cooperative manner with all levels of government, community-based organizations, Indigenous community members, and the private sector.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Software, including Outlook, Word, Excel.
- Knowledge of the development and tracking of performance measures.
- Knowledge of social media, website, and other contemporary communication tools.
- Previous supervisory experience would be considered an asset.
- Preference will be given to applicants from First Nations, Métis, or Inuit Nations or Regions.

**Conditions of employment**:

- Must be able to travel throughout the City to attend off site meetings while on City business, as required.
