Reporting to the Administrative Coordinator, the Special Projects and Initiatives - Newcomer is responsible for coordinating existing and established newcomer related projects and initiatives as well as leading the implementation of the Newcomer Welcome and Inclusion Policy and Framework in collaboration with civic departments, other levels of government, community partners and the community at large. In addition, will also be responsible in supporting city wide Anti-Racism activities in collaboration with civic departments.
The Special Projects and Initiatives - Newcomer will require knowledge of newcomer issues in Winnipeg and anti-racism principles. They will require a demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with newcomer community organizations, leaders and ethno-cultural groups and an ability to demonstrate time management, facilitation skills, problem solving, cultural competency, conflict resolution, communication skills and prioritizing multiple projects.
This position will:
- Provide support in the design, implementation, measurement and evaluation of newcomer related projects and anti-racism initiatives.
- Utilize a project management approach to assigned community development projects and newcomer related initiatives and is responsible for monitoring project timelines, work plan progress and ensuring on-going community engagement.
- Identify project challenges, research potential solutions and make recommendations to the Administrative Coordinator.
- Provide guidance from a newcomer perspective to assist in identifying and supporting the development of partnerships with other levels of government, engaging and retaining the participation of other civic departments and obtaining the buy-in and support of the newcomer serving agencies, ethno-cultural groups and the community at large to ensure that projects are meeting the needs and priorities of the newcomer community.
- Coordinate inter-departmental working groups to support the successful implementation of projects and initiatives.
- Responsible for assembling and submitting project data to inform overall project communications such as reports and presentations, including outcomes, outputs, successes, challenges and recommendations to ensure that required information is being communicated to key stakeholders involved in the various projects.
**As the Special Projects and Initiatives - Newcomer you will**:
- Complete project work plans, implement and evaluate approved newcomer and Anti-Racism specific projects in collaboration with civic departments, other levels of government, newcomer serving agencies and the newcomer community at large.
- Provide strategic planning support, recommending changes and enhancement of policies and processes to increase newcomer and other equity group access and to ensure successful project implementation.
- Develop and maintain key partnerships with community, other levels of government and key stakeholders.
- Identify and recommend performance metrics to track, monitor and evaluate projects.
- Participate and provide support in the maintenance of budgets.
- Develop and implement various reports and presentations that encompass project progress, outcomes and success stories.
**Your education and qualifications include**:
- Post-secondary degree n a Community Development related discipline (Human Rights, Inner City Studies or a related Social Science field), or Business Administration, Diploma in Project Management or Community Development with a minimum of 18 months of experience in the field. An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.
- Related community development training or equivalent experience.
- Preference will be given to applicants who are People of Color, Indigenous people, or people who have lived experience as a newcomer.
- Experience working with key priority populations (ie: newcomers, people experiencing poverty and the Indigenous community).
- Ability to prioritize work; manage multiple projects; and work independently using sound judgment.
- Ability to deal with sensitive issues and information in a confidential, tactful, professional, objective manner.
- Strong critical thinking skills with the ability to research, analyse and develop recommendations.
- Strong problem solving skills; strong interpersonal skills and political acumen.
- Strong communication skills, oral and written, with the ability to present information to a group of people and facilitate complex discussions.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Ability to work in a proactive environment and take a community development approach with all levels of government, community-based organizations, ethno-cultural groups, newcomer community members, and the private sector.
- Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint), and the ability to learn new technology.
