**Overview**

This position performs asphalt-related repairs and maintenance of roads; performs concrete related repairs and maintenance of sidewalks, curbs, catch basins, and manholes; maintains traffic markings, repairs / installs all signs, sets up traffic plans.

**Responsibilities**
- This dual role performs the tasks of Roads Maintainer and Traffic Repairperson on an assigned crews in the summer; and winter maintenance duties as assigned in the winter.
- Installing, repairing, and maintaining existing and new traffic, parking, regulatory, and special signs within Kitchener.
- Painting all lines and pavement markings on City streets, as well as parking lot markings.
- Setting up construction, detour, information and related signage for road repair work and reconstruction projects.
- Deliver, set-up, and remove traffic control equipment and devices as required for City special events.
- Install and repair guardrails.
- Maintaining all related equipment and materials.
- Asphalt: Pre-trip Inspection, Road Repair, Utility Cuts, Crack Sealing, Pot Hole Repair, Infrared Repair, Asphalt Plant.
- Concrete: Pre-trip Inspection, Sidewalks, Curbs & Gutters (new installations and repairs), manhole repair, catch basin repair, mud-jacking.
- Snow Removal: Drives single/dual axle dump truck (tandem) with plow, wing, a variety of salters, and anti-icing (e.g., City streets, parking lots) to remove and haul snow, makes salt brine, operate sidewalk plow, shovel snow.
- May work night shift.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.

**Requirements**:

- Minimum Grade 12 diploma or equivalent.
- Valid MTO “DZ” class driver’s license in good standing
- Demonstrated experience with relevant skills including manual labour.
- Demonstrated communication skills with a customer service focus.
- Ability to participate as an effective team member.
- Work shift:

- Traffic - willing to work shifts from 10:00 p.m. - 6:00 a.m. for 3 to 4 weeks during the road painting season (e.g. May to August).
- Roads - available for winter call outs as required. Shift work may be required for winter maintenance activities.
- Must be available for winter snow removal call-ins as required.
- Must have Traffic Protection and Control Training and be competent in the use of Book 7.
- Excellent decision-making ability and capable of making sound decisions in the absence of a supervisor.
- Familiar with Minimum Maintenance Standards as it pertains to Traffic Signs.
- Proven competent person as stated in the Occupational Health and Safety Act.
- Reliable with a good attitude and employment record.
