Operating Room Assistant

The Operating Room (OR) Assistant provides support to the perioperative setting and works closely with the OR staff in each Operating Room. The OR Assistant requires understanding of surgical preference cards and co-ordination of room set-up with Perioperative Staff to maintain equipment and resources required for surgical procedures. The OR Assistant will perform a broad range of tasks in alignment with departmental goals and objectives, including but not limited to stock management of surgical supplies, monitoring backorders and communication with purchasing department and Team Leader, assisting with patient flow, assisting with position of patients under direction of the OR team, set up of all surgical suites with positioning and procedural equipment, appropriate use of routine practices and additional precautions between case cleaning of the operating room theatres and will perform additional duties as assigned to contribute to patient safety and flow.

Job Requirements:
**QUALIFICIATIONS**
- Grade 12 education or equivalent
- OR Room Attendant Micro-credential program
- Previous experience at least one (1) year working in an Operating Room environment is essential
- Knowledge of Operating Room equipment, devices, and processes essential
- Experience with aseptic technique and cleaning of sterile areas is essential
- Must be able to function independently and as team member
- Must be able to prioritize and work efficiently in a fast-paced environment
- Ability and experience demonstrated through positive attendance, performance appraisals and work history
- Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality essential
- Demonstrated ability to work independently
- Demonstrated ability to work co-operatively in a team setting
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with others and strong interpersonal skills
- Demonstrated ability to always maintain professional manner, demonstrating flexibility, sound judgment and adaptability in decision making, problem solving and team building to function as an effective team member

**ASSEST**

**COMPENSATION**

- Hourly rate of pay $30.43 - $31.17, additional 14% in lieu of benefits and 4% in lieu of vacation to start.

**HOURS OF WORK**
Permanent Casual. Mainly call in and vacation relief. Required to provide availability for a minimum of six (6) shifts per month. Shifts include days, nights, weekends and statutory holidays. Shifts and hours may change according to departmental requirements and as per the SEIU collective agreement.
