You have strong case management skills and understand the importance of ensuring safe and healthy mentoring relationships between volunteer mentors and our Mentees (ages 7-17).

**Position Summary**:
The Mentoring Coordinator initiates, facilitates, supports, and monitors the mentoring relationship between a youth (the “Little” or “Mentee”) in need of academic support and an adult volunteer (the “Big Sister” or “Mentor” ). Recruiting, interviewing, screening, training, and supporting volunteers, as well as ongoing record keeping via database management, are key components of this position.

**What you will be doing**:
**Case Management**
- Conducts intakes with potential Littles / Mentees and their parent(s) / guardian(s) - explains the program, prepares case histories, assesses child and family needs and strengths, refers families to additional programs and resources as appropriate / necessary
- Interviews Big Sister Volunteer applicants; provides assessment on suitability for the program; conducts training and orientation sessions for approved volunteers; manages and documents volunteer correspondence
- In accordance with Big Brothers Big Sisters’ National Standards, maintains ongoing contact with the Big Sister Volunteer and Little / Mentee (and their family) to ensure a supported, successful, and culturally responsive & appropriate match;
- Monitors each match with particular attention to Little / Mentee’s physical, mental, and emotional safety & wellbeing
- Develops and implements appropriate match support strategies as necessary (increased levels of monitoring & support, connections to additional resources, etc.)

**Database / Client Records Management**
- Ensures client and volunteer files are accurate and up to date
- Maintains security and confidentiality of child / youth / volunteer information in accordance with Agency policies and FOIPPA regulations

**Program Operations**
- Works to ensure the appropriate support of program participants within the constraints of agency resources
- Participates in evaluating the effectiveness and efficiency of the program and provides suggestions to modify programs and procedures
- Participates in ongoing trainings related to child & youth safety and wellbeing, JEDI implementation, anti-racism education, etc., as required

**Community Outreach**
- Acts as a liaison between the Agency and youth workers at other community organizations, schools, government ministries, municipalities, and ethno-cultural groups as requested
- Establishes and maintains a professional network of contacts at youth-serving agencies throughout our service area
- Maintains a thorough knowledge of community resources to meet client needs
- Attends and participates in community events such as volunteer recruitment fairs, sector development events, funder events, as required

**What you bring**:
**Experience & Education**
- Minimum 2-year post-secondary diploma with related work experience (required) or a bachelor’s degree in social sciences or humanities (preferred)
- 1 to 3 years direct program delivery experience working with children and families, ideally in a not-for-profit social services organization
- Demonstrated knowledge of community-based programs and provincial support systems for youth & families is preferred
- An equivalent combination of experience & education will be considered, however, a minimum 2-year diploma is mandated by our National Standards
