VIA HFR will work with Indigenous peoples to build strong relationships and create mutually beneficial socio-economic development opportunities.
Are you ready for an exciting and impactful challenge? Look no further: VIA HFR is seeking a Director, Indigenous Relations in Quebec for this unique infrastructure project that will transform passenger rail in Canada's most populous region, between Toronto and Quebec City.
**The role**
Reporting to the Vice President, Indigenous Relations, you will be a key member of our team, responsible for developing and managing sustainable and respectful relationships with Indigenous peoples.
**The responsibilities**
- Lead a multi-disciplinary team responsible for implementing the Indigenous Community Relations Strategy and Engagement Plans.
- Build and maintain relationships with Indigenous peoples, working closely with them to understand their needs, concerns, and aspirations.
- Deploy a proactive and innovative approach to developing collaborative agreements that will confirm consultation processes and support meaningful participation in the planning and co-development phases of the project.
- Participate in the identification of opportunities and the achievement of socio-economic development targets for Indigenous communities, such as employment, contracts, and partnerships.
**The requirements**
- University degree in communications, public relations, political science, law, international relations, or related field.
- Minimum of 10 to 15 years and relevant experience, including a minimum of five (5) years in a management role.
- In-depth knowledge of government processes, relevant regulations, and Indigenous issues.
- Ability to work independently and collaborate as part of a team.
- Results orientation and ability to develop and execute effective strategies.
- Political acumen, ability to influence and negotiate.
- Commitment to professional ethics and integrity.
- Ability to travel - up to 20-30% of the time - within the corridor and willingness to travel occasionally across Canada.
- Fluency in spoken and written French and English is a strong asset. Ability to communicate in one or more Indigenous languages is an asset.
