The Opportunity
The Alberta Energy Regulator (AER) is recruiting a Summer Student to join its talented team of professionals in the Alberta Geological Survey (AGS) branch. AGS provides geological information and advice about Alberta's geology to the AER, the Government of Alberta, industry, and the public, supporting the exploration, sustainable development, regulation, and conservation of Alberta's resources. Currently, AGS is conducting a multi-year project with the Ministry of Environment & Protected Areas to evaluate groundwater resources in southern Alberta.
What your day-to-day will look like:
- Assist in the collection of data for aquifer mapping and the hydrogeological characterization of Alberta's geology, with a focus on the southern plains.- Compile, organize, and manage geological and groundwater datasets from various sources to support the Modelling & Resources team.- Evaluate geological data for quality control and identify outliers.- Analyze geological data to support the conceptual understanding of groundwater resources.
What we’re looking for in you:
- Currently enrolled in a Bachelor’s program in Geoscience, with specialization in Geology or a related field.- Understanding of Geology and Hydrogeology is preferred and completion of an introductory Hydrogeology course is considered an asset.- Basic computer skills and working knowledge of Microsoft Office is preferred.- Excellent interpersonal and teamwork skills.
