NAIT's School of Energy and Natural Resources is hiring up to two full-time instructors for the Conservation Biology and Environmental Monitoring & Assessment programs. Candidates must possess strong interpersonal and communication skills, recent relevant experience in the environmental industry, and be willing to share their knowledge and expertise with students in various educational settings.
The primary responsibilities include developing and delivering educational content for the Conservation Biology and Environmental Monitoring & Assessment programs. Preference will be given to applicants with expertise in a combination of the following areas: Fish Management and Taxonomy, Electrofishing, Winter Survival, Chainsaw Operation, Water Sampling, Water Chemistry, Limnology, Wetlands, Parks Interpretation, Law and Professionalism, Vertebrate and Invertebrate Zoology, Botany, Ecology, Entomology, GIS, Project Management, Soils, Reclamation, Environmental Site Assessment, Hydrogeology, and Remediation Techniques. Candidates should have experience with both field and laboratory methods. Additional duties encompass general program instruction and non-instructional tasks as required by program needs.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare and deliver content to support learning outcomes and related activities in classrooms, laboratories, and field settings.
- Support the learning process by using instructional strategies that ensure the effective delivery of course materials.
- Use appropriate educational technology for presentations, communication, and program promotion
- Evaluate student progress via assignments, exams, and lab competencies, and keep records in an LMS
- Contribute positively to supporting and maintaining "student success"
- Create a safe and effective learning environment; promptly address student concerns and issues
- Regularly update the course curriculum to stay aligned with current industry needs and standards
- Assist with curriculum development, course reviews, and program evaluations.
- Participate in activities to enhance and sustain professional skills and qualifications as specified in the program curriculum.
- Foster and sustain a professional and safe work environment
- Coordinate and participate in field trips and week-long field schools in remote locations
Qualifications:
- A degree (preferably a graduate degree) in a field related to primary instructional subject areas
- 5 to 8 years of recent experience in the environmental industry
- Previous teaching and/or leadership experience in a post-secondary institute would be a definite asset
- Comfortable teaching in diverse indoor and outdoor environments under different weather conditions
- Wilderness first aid certification is a valuable asset
- A professional designation (e.g., P. Ag., P. Biol.) is preferred
- Previous experience in developing and managing course content within an LMS is preferred
- Applied research experience is considered an asset
Applicants with education credentials earned outside of Canada should have their credentials evaluated by World Education Services (WES), International Qualifications Assessment Service (IQAS) or the Comparative Education Services (CES).
Remuneration:Will commensurate with education and experience, plus a comprehensive benefits package.
Instructor salary grid $65, $113,452.00 annually. However, starting salary for new hires averages between $78, $85,889.00 annually based on education and experience with room for negotiations. (Classification – Instructor).
This position is covered by the NAIT Academic Staff Association (NASA) Collective Agreement
