**Duties and Responsibilities**:
In line with the strategic directions of the Office of the Vice-President (Research and International) and the operational initiatives of the Carleton Office for Research Initiatives and Services (CORIS), the Honours and Distinctions Editor, contributes to the overall reputation and research intensity growth of the University at the local, national and international levels.

Reporting to the Assistant Director (AD), CORIS, the Editor provides administrative, editing and

**proofreading support for**: 1) the development and submission of honorary doctorates; 2) honours and distinctions to be submitted at the national and international level. The incumbent provides other administrative and operational support to CORIS as required, such as editing and proof reading research grants.

**Qualifications**:
**The incumbent must possess the following qualifications**:

- Able to interact appropriately and credibly with researchers, professors and professionals external to the University, dealing with complex matters relating to research honours and distinctions and honorary doctorate regulations and legislation.
- Good oral communication skills, excellent mastery of the written English language, reading and basic analytical skills to clearly impart the concepts and areas involved in research related honours and distinctions, the preparation of correspondence, organizing and leading info sessions and workshops, and adjusting competition materials.
- Thorough knowledge of University operating procedures, good administrative skills, sound judgment, tact and ability to deal effectively with people as well as continuing awareness and sensitivity to other cultures.
- Requires an excellent mastery of the written English language in view of editing nominations written by academics for submission. The goal of the editing being to improve the quality of the written language and the clarity of the ideas.

**Other required knowledge and skills include**:

- Experience working with senior executives;
- Ability to work independently, taking initiative, and handle new responsibilities;
- Strong interpersonal skills and excellent communication skills both verbal and written;
- High degree of loyalty, discretion, maturity, resourcefulness and tact to deal with a wide spectrum of occupations;
**Education and Experience**:
**The above is normally acquired through the completion of**:

- The completion of a university degree or the equivalent to three years of post-secondary education.
- 5 years in a university setting acquiring progressively more responsibility.
- Experience should include editing\proofreading, knowledge and development of nominations of honours and distinctions (including honorary doctorates), knowledge of project planning and coordination, experience in statistical and qualitative reporting, and experience in reporting to senior management.
