**Job Posting**

Reporting to the Supervisor, Building Operations, this position encompasses a wide variety of duties in various locations indoors and outdoors in various working conditions. This is a working position and will be required to work in the regular daily tasks when not actively assisting the Building Operations Supervisor. They will be responsible for safe and efficient operation of the Ice arena, Refrigeration Plant, Pool mechanical Equipment and Boiler room. This position requires teamwork, flexibility, organizational skills and safety awareness.

**DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES**:

- Ensure the safe and efficient operations of the facility refrigeration plant equipment and required inspections
- Chief Plant Operator
- In depth knowledge of Building Management Systems
- Deals directly with contractors on site
- Uses CityWorks and creates work orders for contractors when required
- Day to Day operations when Supervisor is out of building
- Perform work of a Plant Operator 2 ( 1Ticket) during the ice season
- Perform designated maintenance and operational inspections of refrigeration equipment
- Complete appropriate plant log sheets and the physical plant daily log book
- Ensure refrigeration plant, ammonia detection alarm systems are on in the remote monitor mode
- Record any machinery malfunctions, changes in operation conditions, maintenance performed on equipment or machinery in the daily log book
- Direct and Participate in on site efforts of work crews ensuring regular scheduled ice and pool maintenance occurs
- Assist with work scheduling, manpower and assignment planning, material estimating and ordering, routine record keeping, reports, timesheets and ordering of supplies and materials
- Maintain and safely operate tools and equipment
- Perform ice maintenance, including installation, resurfacing, operating and maintaining ice resurfacing machine
- Maintain water chemistry balance in indoor pools
- Maintain pool equipment including pumps, filters, heaters and feeders
- Sweep, backwash and vacuum pools
- Cleaning of entire arena including washrooms, dressing rooms, dasher boards, etc.
- Security of equipment in the arena and the building itself
- Perform general repairs to complex, arena equipment including goal nets and facility equipment
- Security of equipment in the complex
- General repairs to complex and facility equipment
- Inspect and maintain boards
- Maintain dressing rooms and other areas within the arena
- Other related assigned duties including those of Utility Workers

**QUALIFICATIONS**
**Education & Experience**:

- Grade 12 or equivalent
- A valid NS Department of Labour 2nd Class Refrigeration License Required
- Must hold a valid Certified Pool/ Spa Operator course (or willing to obtain in the first 6 months)
- Minimum 2 years Proven experience within arena, pool and building environments in a system maintenance capacity which would carry out general repairs to the facility and equipment
- Working knowledge of Pool maintenance and filtration systems
- Valid NS Class 5 Driver’s License
- Valid WHMIS, Emergency First Aid, CPR Accreditation or willingness to obtain
- Experience with ice maintenance which includes installation, ice resurfacing, operating and maintaining ice resurfacing machine
- Commercial Pool experience would be an asset

**Technical / Job Specific Knowledge and Abilities**:

- Staff maintains and adheres to all applicable Government Regulations and Acts relating to the operation of the Sackville Sports Stadium.
- Must have annual training and fit testing for self contained breathing apparatus, as required
- Experience operating ice resurfacing equipment
- Knowledge of required safety procedures and work practices
- Must have a good attendance and work record
- Must have excellent customer service skills
- Must be able to handle stressful situations
- Must have ability to work independently and as a member of a team
- Must have ability to work safely and report any workplace hazards
- Must have ability and skills to effectively interact with the general public and internal clients
- Must ensure staff are properly trained on the use and safety elements of all equipment/processes

**WORK STATUS**: Permanent, Full Time

**HOURS OF WORK**: Monday - Friday, 8am-4pm, 40 hours per week

**SALARY**: $31.55 per hour, as per CUPE 108 Collective Agreement

**WORK LOCATION**: Sackville Sports Stadium, 409 Glendale Drive, Sackville, NS
