We're now looking for a dedicated Safety Officer to lead the charge in ensuring our teams, equipment, and facilities meet—and exceed—industry standards for health and safety. From the warehouse floor to the open road, your impact will be felt across our entire ecosystem.
The Role
As Safety Officer, you’ll be the cornerstone of our safety strategy, making sure that our people go home safe every day, our vehicles are road-ready, and our warehouses operate with integrity and compliance.
You’ll embed a proactive safety mindset across all levels of the business—from drivers to dispatchers, from loaders to leadership.
Key Responsibilities
1. Program Development & Compliance
- Design and implement safety policies tailored for courier, freight, and warehouse operations
- Ensure compliance with federal, provincial, and local regulations (NS DOL, Transport Canada, etc.)
- Lead internal audits, risk assessments, and regulatory reporting
2. Training & Team Engagement
- Develop and deliver training on PPE, defensive driving, warehouse protocols, emergency procedures
- Lead new-hire orientations and periodic refresher sessions
- Coach frontline teams on safe practices through toolbox talks and site visits
3. Incident Management & Investigation
- Respond to workplace incidents, conduct root cause investigations
- Maintain documentation and coordinate with insurers and regulatory bodies
- Analyze trends and recommend corrective actions
4. Operational Oversight
- Conduct regular inspections of trucks, facilities, yards, and loading areas
- Monitor driver logs, hours of service, and maintenance schedules for safety flags
- Ensure that contractors and vendors adhere to NovaXpress safety standards
5. Safety Culture Leadership
- Promote a culture where safety is non-negotiable
- Collaborate with management to build accountability and continuous improvement
- Recognize and reward safe behaviors across departments
Who You Are
You’re a safety professional with sharp instincts, strong systems knowledge, and the confidence to speak up when it matters. You understand that real safety leadership means being present in the field, listening, educating, and taking action.
- 3-7 years of experience in occupational health & safety, preferably in transportation or logistics
- Knowledge of trucking, courier, or warehouse operations is a strong asset
- Familiar with NS OH&S regulations, Transport Canada compliance, and COR audits
- Experience with driver compliance (hours of service, inspections, training logs)
- Safety certifications (e.g., NCSO, CRSP, or equivalent) preferred
- Excellent communication, coaching, and documentation skills
- Must be based in Halifax or nearby, with valid NS driver’s license

Pay: $50,000.00-$60,000.00 per year
