**Position Summary**

The role of a Finance Assistant is to support financial and administrative operations within an operating unit by managing and processing various financial transactions, including invoices, expenses, and donations. They ensure accurate data entry, compliance with financial policies and procedures, and timely communication with internal stakeholders. The Finance Assistant plays a crucial role in maintaining financial and administration records, supporting budgeting, and reporting activities, and contributing to the overall efficiency of the finance function.

**Key Responsibilities**
- Responsible for efficiently processing invoices and expenses, ensuring accurate coding, proper documentation, and adherence to payment schedules. Verify and record expenses, reconcile accounts, and maintain records for audit purposes.
- Process in a timely manner the funds received by the operating unit, including grants, donations, and other sources of income and maintain tracking systems to monitor revenue streams.
- Maintain operating unit specific tracking systems to monitor various expenses and revenues specific to the operating units.
- update and reconcile financial data, generate reports, and provide insights for decision-making and financial analysis.
- Train, Guide and Support new staff members in navigating finance-related processes and systems and ensuring that all staff members within the operating unit understand and adhere to financial policies and protocols.
- Assists with gathering relevant information and documents required for audits and staff enquiries related to revenue and expenses. They ensure that financial records and supporting documentation are readily available, accurate, and well-organized.
- Calgary Office liaison, including checking mail, handling office keys, ordering office supplies.
- Ensuring property tax exemption and Alberta charitable license is filed.
- Inventory tracking, maintenance, and purchasing of computers.
- Additional tasks as requested by the Controller, Regional.

The Finance Assistant will report to the Regional Controller and will work closely with the Operating Unit Staff.

**Position Requirements**
- Certificate in Accounting and/or 1-3 years of experience in accounting or finance;
- Demonstrated proficiency with MS Office Suite;
- Effective prioritization abilities to consistently meet deadlines
- Exceptional attention to details;
- Quick analytical and problem solving skills, demonstrating a proactive approach
- Demonstrated strong written and verbal communication skills;
- Flexibility, reliability, self-motivation, and ability to work independently;
