**Position Summary**

The Field Services Inspector, as part of a larger team, plays a critical role in Alberta’s recycling system, working with registered processors and collection sites to enhance recycling practices. The Team plays a crucial role in maintaining excellence across 400+ collection sites and 30 processing facilities in Alberta. They use strategic and practical methods to conduct regular inspections of collection and processor sites registered with Alberta’s Stewardship Programs for electronics, paint, tires and used oil material recycling for compliance with ARMA requirements.

As a Field Services Inspector, you are an ambassador of Alberta’s Stewardship Programs to a range of stakeholders and are a key point of contact for sharing information about ARMA. Building and maintaining strong relationships with our operational partners is a priority in this role.

As inspection sites are located throughout Alberta, this position is primarily field-based and requires a significant amount of travel time, approximately 2-3 days/week, including some overnight stays.

**Core Responsibilities**

Monitor and inspect assigned processor and collection sites per the Annual Inspection Plan and conduct the following for:

- Registered Processors (Inspect processors registered in ARMA’s Stewardship Programs to verify: percentage/amount of each type of program material, separation of program and non-program materials, compliance with program requirements)
- Collection Sites (conduct yearly or bi-yearly site visits, depending on the site, to verify compliance with collection site requirements and offer support/guidance in collecting ARMA’s Stewardship materials)

Produce detailed, high-quality inspection reports with appropriate supporting documentation and photos for all site inspections completed.

Maintain the files in the electronic filing system. Ensure records are up to date, accurate, and correctly catalogued and filed.

Track and follow-up on issues resulting from inspections of processors facilities and collection site visits within an appropriate timeframe.

Provide back-up support to other Field Services Inspectors, as required, which may include conducting inspections at other designated material processing facilities.

Perform site visits at various locations including downstream processor and generator sites of program material (all programs), as needed to address various program matters.

Inspect completed Grant projects as required, including taking photographs and completing inspection reports.

Actively communicate with the Program Administration Team to ensure all processor non-compliance issues are managed appropriately.

Share information and collaborate with the Program Administration team to support Stewardship Program development initiatives.

As assigned, coordinate with external consultants and registered processors for various projects requiring access to processor facilities.

Act as main point of contact for the coordination of designated material events and represent ARMA at various events and forums.

Continuously strive to develop and enhance reporting and tracking tools for use in ongoing site inspections.

**Other Duties**
- Contributes to a positive and safe culture by modeling organizational values.
- Maintains an understanding of and adheres to Alberta Recycling Management Authority’s policies, procedures, and standards.
- Strictly adheres to processor and collection site safety protocols.
- Actively participates in team and staff meetings.
- Attend courses, workshops, and conferences as needed.
- Performs other job-related duties and assists other team members, as required.

**Education, Experience and Competencies**
- Technical College certification or post-secondary diploma in a related field such as business administration, environmental sciences, engineering technology, etc. Equivalent experience may be acceptable.
- Specialized on-the-job training and/or experience of a minimum of one (1) year in municipal waste management, recycling sector or relevant industry. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be acceptable.
- Three (3) - five (5) years of related experience in field inspections. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be acceptable.
- Must possess a valid class 5 driver’s license and be comfortable driving in a range of conditions.
- Working knowledge of health and safety legislation and environmental management systems.
- Excellent time management and planning skills, and ability to prioritize individual workload.
- Proficiency in writing inspection reports, including all documentation and photographs.
- Excellent Microsoft Office skills with the ability to learn new software and work remotely as required (for 2-4 days when necessary).
- Excellent independent decision-making, and problem-solving skills (thinking outside the box).
- Strong ability to communicate both verbally and in writing.
