**Overview** Open Arms Resource Center is committed to transforming lives by providing compassionate, impactful services to individuals experiencing homelessness. Open Arms is seeking a motivated and compassionate Outreach Support Worker to join our growing team. This one-year role is renewable pending funding. In this role, you will be responsible for building relationships with individuals experiencing homelessness through outreach and engagement. You will provide client-centered care for individuals with health issues, substance use, mental health, and housing concerns. This role requires responding to community calls, offering on-the-ground support, and collaborating with internal Shelter and Housing teams as well as local services to ensure safety and well-being. Key Responsibilities: Outreach - Responding to community calls, offering on-the-ground support, to individuals in the community experiencing homelessness. - Conduct outreach to connect individuals with appropriate services, including shelter, healthcare, and social support. - Provide immediate assistance, including distributing supplies, offering transportation, and facilitating access to safe housing options. - Build trusting relationships with community members, service providers, and individuals in need. - Intervening and de-escalating crisis situations. Working closely with emergency services and community organizations to coordinate support. - Maintaining accurate case management records and completing reporting as required. - Advocate for the needs of homeless individuals and promote long-term solutions. Qualifications: Education: Post-secondary education in a relevant discipline i.e. social work, social or human services, or related field is preferred; or an equivalent combination of education and experience Skills & Experience: - Experience in social work, crisis intervention, or community outreach preferred. - Strong communication and interpersonal skills. - Ability to remain calm and effective in high-pressure situations. - Knowledge of local resources and support networks for homelessness and mental health is an asset. - Experience working with highly vulnerable populations, particularly those with health, mental health, and substance abuse issues. - An understanding of the concerns and needs of homeless individuals living in encampments is an asset. - Ability to work with mínimal supervision and the flexibility to solve problems creatively. - Valid certification in Non-Violent Crisis Intervention and First Aid/CPR or willingness to be trained. - Ability to work flexible shifts, including evenings and weekends. - Local travel required, including ability to operate the Outreach vehicle; must have a valid driver’s license and access to reliable transportation. - Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite; familiarity with CRM systems is an asset.
