**Job Title**:Saturday Night Weekend Addiction Support Worker

**Hours**: 12 hours per week, working Saturday night 2000-0800 can pick up extra shifts, and work up to 44 hours per week

**Wage**: $23.55 per hour

**Position Summary**:
As an Addiction Support Workers you are front-line workers, working as part of a team, interacting directly with our clients in our shelter, the majority of which are homeless and under the influence of drugs and or alcohol. The primary responsibility is to ensure that client's needs are assessed and met appropriately, while clients are visiting our shelter. The following duties are performed by the Addiction Support Worker:
**Responsibilities**:

- Completes admissions and discharges of individuals, including those who are under the influence of drugs and alcohol.
- Treats clients with respect and dignity, interacting with them in a caring, non-judgmental manner
- Monitors clients' safety and well-being, ensuring their withdrawal symptoms are being monitored appropriately, and getting support when needed
- Attends to crisis situations (i.e. seizures, disagreements) focusing on defusing situations before they escalate
- Interacts with other addiction agencies and community services including LPS & EMS
- Following established protocols, required to ensure bodily fluids are properly cleaned up and area is disinfected.
- Foster and maintain excellent relationships with health professionals who are involved with providing for clients’ needs
- Ensure compliance with regulatory standards (MSDS, OH & S, WHMIS), which includes assisting in maintaining cleanliness of the building, including regular room inspections and room cleaning support as required
- Adhering to building safety protocols and codes
- Consistently demonstrate ability to take the initiative to make decisions/choices without direct supervision.

**Qualifications and Requirements**:

- At minimum, a two-year diploma in a related field from a public post secondary institution, or in progress towards one
- Preference will be given to those studying in Social Work, Psychology, Sociology, nursing or addictions
- Experience with individuals who have addictions and or are homeless would be an asset
- An open, accepting, compassionate attitude
- Comfortable in working in an environment with the risk of violence
- Strong understanding of FOIP
- Must be tolerant, non-judgmental with a high degree of compassion and empathy towards the homeless and those struggling with addictions
- Time management skills, multitasking skills, and the ability to prioritize tasks with mínimal supervision
- A well-developed sense of diplomacy, including conflict resolution, de-escalation and people management skills
- Team player with strong written and oral communication skills
