**Normal Work Schedule**: Full-time - 35 hours per week; Monday to Friday. May require some work to be performed outside of regular working hours and including weekends.
Position Summary
Under the direction of the Associate Dean, Student Success and working with other members of the Dean’s Office, (especially the Student Success Team), the Student Success and Career Advisor will provide integrated support to Victoria University students and help them to explore, expand and explain their university experience through a combination of personal advising and counselling, and broader program development and offerings. Students will cultivate life skills and wellness strategies, reflect on their curricular and co-curricular interests and abilities, foster mental wellness, and define their future goals.
The Student Success and Career Advisor will play a significant role in the development and support of the Vic Ready program, a holistic life preparedness multi-year engagement program that prepares students for success through and beyond university. In offering a combination of in-person and online workshops and one-on-one advising to support students in their soft and hard skill development and career interests, the Student Success and Career Advisor will help students to have a more smooth and intentional experience during university and plan for after graduation.
The Student Success and Career Advisor will develop strong working relationships with academic and co-curricular partners at Victoria University and in the broader University of Toronto community. The incumbent will also work with students and student groups to: identify opportunities for career education and life skills development; research, create, and deliver career education and life skills programming both in person and online; support mental wellness and provide mental health support; prepare students for career exploration activities through the active cultivation of transferrable skills; monitor progress and assess learning outcomes related to career education and personal and life skill development activities.
Working with other offices at Victoria University including the Office of the Registrar and Academic Advising, and in collaboration with the University of Toronto Career Exploration and Education Centre staff. The CAPS Counsellor will also design, implement and interpret assessment projects related to student skill and career development learning outcomes. The CAPS Counsellor will work actively to develop and implement initiatives that foster career planning competencies and blend career and personal development with cultivating strategies for personal and professional success including in health and wellness.
QUALIFICATIONS
**Education**:
Master’s degree in social work, counselling, student development, higher education, or adult education or an equivalent relevant education.
**Experience**:
Minimum 5 years’ experience in an experiential program delivery environment, with an emphasis on project and program development, online community programming and supports, implementation, assessment, group facilitation and group reflection, preferably within an educational setting. Demonstrated knowledge of and ability to research, learn and utilize theoretical approaches and best-practices for career education, personal, and skill development particularly in an online/virtual environment. Demonstrated experience building relationships with academic and co-curricular partners, health and wellness offices, and students and student groups. Demonstrated experience advising and counselling students and making effective referrals including during time of crisis and/or distress. Experience providing mental health counselling and provide resiliency-based programming. Must have an equity lens and experience in harm reduction strategies
**Skills**:
Advanced proficiency with MS Office Suite (i.e. Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint), and well-developed technology skills including locating and evaluating relevant material using the Internet and database searches; comfort with automated computer systems (e.g. job search databases) and electronic learning tools e.g., course management systems like Quercus, blogs, social networking, e-learning, and video clips. Excellent oral and written communication skills.
