**Position**: Integrated Behaviour Support Worker

**Reports to**: Program Supervisor, Psychogeriatrics - Wendat Community Programs and Behaviour Support Services (BSS) Manager

**Location**: North Simcoe Muskoka Specialized Geriatric Services (NSM SGS) Community Team

**Position Summary**:
The Integrated Behaviour Support Worker (IBSW), as part of the NSM SGS Mental Health Community team, works collaboratively within an interdisciplinary team. As part of an interdisciplinary team, this individual will support older adults with cognitive impairment and responsive behaviours in community-based settings across the NSM region. The role includes engaging in periods of observation, modelling and implementing trial care strategies. Provides coaching and mentoring to the client and formal/informal care providers. The IBSW position also assists with the implementation of care plan interventions that are developed collaboratively within the team environment. This is a regional program serving all of North Simcoe-Muskoka. Each IBSW will be assigned a primary region however, may be required to work in other regions based on client and program needs.

**Hours of Work**:
40 hours per week based on five days of 8 hours with a one hour paid lunch break each day. Regular shifts will be from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm. On occasion it may be necessary to flex these hours based on client need.

**Qualifications**:

- Certificate as a Personal Support Worker, Health Care Aid, Developmental Support Worker or equivalent post high school education and/or experience.
- Fully vaccinated for COVID-19
- GPA and U-First an asset.
- Three to five years’ experience in the care of older adults experiencing a responsive behaviour. The responsive behaviour can be a result of dementia, mental illness, addictions or neurodegenerative disease processes.
- Ability to organize and prioritize work effectively, manage a full work-load and meet deadlines in a busy environment.
- Proven ability to adapt positively and productively to change in the work environment.
- Professional work ethic.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Understanding and ability to use concepts, principles and specific techniques of behaviour management with seniors.
- Valid drivers license with reliable car and the ability to travel long distances across the NSM region.

**Requirements**:

- Demonstrates interpersonal skills including an ability to engage others and work within an interdisciplinary team.
- Demonstrates effectiveness working with limited supervision with proven reliability and trustworthiness.
- Demonstrates a commitment to the establishment of therapeutic relationships with clients and caregivers.
- Demonstrates appropriate care and security of IT equipment provided by Waypoint.
- Attends team meetings with SGS Manager and/or Wendat Program Supervisor as requested.
- Participates in educational opportunities to ensure continued growth and development in the management of behaviours.
- Attend weekly meetings with Registered Community Clinician to discuss client care plan, and review overall caseloads.
- Ensures all communication and documentation is timely and managed in according to Protection of Privacy Act and Personal Health Information Protection Act.
- Works within Wendat Community Programs and NSM SGS policies and procedures, inclusive of health and safety requirements.
- Models and promotes the Mission, Vision and Values of both Wendat Community Programs and the NSM Specialized Geriatric Services Program.

**Duties and Responsibilities**:

- Assist the Registered SGS Community Clinicians with compiling information and utilizing observational tools.
- Complete observations, coach, mentor and model approaches/care strategies that assist in managing responsive behaviour for clients and their caregivers.
- Report any observable changes in behavioural status or abilities to the Registered Community Clinician.
- Collaborate in the development of an individualized client care plan with the Registered Community Clinician.
- Assist with implementation of care strategies to address the specific responsive behaviours.
- Attends and participates in inter-disciplinary client conferences as required.

**Job Types**: Full-time, Permanent

**Salary**: $36,621.00-$40,090.00 per year
